Diesel in oil

Featured Replies

Hi all. My car is a 54 plate VRS. Two days ago driving down the motorway at 70 in sixth gear I had a sudden loss of power with a big puff of smoke out the back. Lots of lights popped up on the dash as well and the engine cut out. I pulled over on the hard shoulder, popped the bonnet and noticed fresh coolant in the engine bay and all over the road.

I called the AA to get recovered. The AA man opened the expansion tank and the coolant was black. Then he pulled out the dipstick and the oil was dripping off like oil and he said there was fluid half way up the dipstick tube! Oh dear. It also smelled like diesel.

The car was recovered to my local garage and he agreed. His diagnosis either an injector pump seal or injector seal gone leaking fuel into the engine.

My question is has anyone had any experience of this or mechanicy types know about this? Is it easy/hard to rectify? Cheap or expensive?

I don't want to get rid of the car but I think it might be un economical to repair given the value of the car.

Any advice is great fully appreciated.

Liam

*dripping off like water that should read!

sounds like the head has gone too buddy, sounds like you had bore wash ie filling the sump with diesel, then the level may have got too high causing too much pressure in the engine causing failure. May also have taken the turbo if the diesel has watered down the oil too much

If the head is ok, and the injector needs a seal, youll need a head gasket too if oil in coolant, its gonna be hefty, thats if no other danage has been caused. I recon a grand could be easily lost here - sorry
