oe cd changer sound problems

Featured Replies

hi all, I've purchased a cd changer off a genuine chap on here, ive installed it but sound seems like theres interferance and very low! are there any known problems with these?

however, who ever removed the standard equiptment had changer the wiring plug for a different changer so ive soldered in new plug matching all wire colors but the copper wiring in the car is black not gold almost like its burnt! could this be the prob and its a case of chasing back to good wire or any other suggestions?

thanks in advance for any advice

The wire is solid copper,Solder with flux will only make a good joint on a copper to copper connection.I would use an ink rubber (If you can still get one!) on all the tarnished wires. If you use  fine wet and dry paper,it will remove copper as well, not a good idea. The solution in Industrial Electronics ,would be replace wires back to where the tarnish starts.I understand this is not practical in your situation .

Negative wire corrosion turning copper to black is a well known phenomenon in dc circuits but seen mostly on circuits using "breathing" batteries such as NiCd. The corrosion runs up inside the insulation so you may have to replace more cable you might imagine.

Of course it could just be that your wire has been overheated by a fault but then you will also see damage to the insulation.

Either way, get back to good cable and make a new joint or add an extension as said above.
