Hello,

I've been lurking here for a while now.

In 2009 I spent quite a while looking for a replacement car for my wife. I eventually got a 2004 Octavia Ambient mk2 1.4 petrol with only 28k kms on it.  Not the fastest car I've ever driven :) but it did a job and did it very well.  It was really dependable, cost nothing except a set of tyres and a couple of services and was very tight, no rattles, no problems, completely dependable.

In early September just gone (2013), I went to our local town and on the way a motorist drove out in front of me from a side road on the left. I swerved slightly to the right but collided with her. My front nearside into her front offside. If I didn't swerve I would have got her in the driver's door. Both front air bags deployed even though there was no passenger, and our Octavia was written off with only 54k kms on it.

This morning, the certificate of destruction arrived in the post.

Anyway, for the last three weeks I've been looking for a replacement. I couldn't find anything remotely close to what I wanted here in Ireland and eventually found a very nice 2009 Octavia Classic 1.4 TSI with 53k miles in Southport, England. I bought it last Saturday and have it home.  The wife is delighted with it.

What a different car to our last one!!!  I think the old car was 75bhp and the TSI is 122bhp and what a huge difference it makes to the driving experience.  The extra power is amazing. The fuel economy is better by I estimate 1 liter per 100km.

We miss the on board computer. I didn't realise it wasn't there until I was driving home and went to press the button on the end of the stalk and to my horror realised there was none!!!  We also miss the remote central locking. I insisted to the dealer that it was missing. He insisted there was none with this model. He was right.

Anyway I hope this Octavia is as reliable as the last one. There is one issue that concerns me and I'll ask that in the Octavia forum.
