Rebuild help please :)

Featured Replies

Right guys im going to start rebuilding my car back up today and over the next weeks.

First of all, when i connect the decat pipe, which is 2.5 inch. and the standard is 2.25? If im right, now having a reducer on the exhaust, will this cause any problems or should it be okay till i get my custom exhaust?

Also, when i come to bolt up the turbo and that, do i need to torque up the bolts, if so, whats the torque setting? Also does this apply to the inlet manifold?

Next im going to start fitting up my new seatsport FMIC, Do you need to drill holes to hold it too the body, and also, whats the best way to go, fit the pipework up first and then the intercooler so you know how far or close it needs too sit?

Also if anyone has anything else i need to do,if ive forgotten, please let me know :D

thanks in advance,

Will

Have you got the correct brackets for the SS cooler? No holes need to be drilled but get a dremel handy because you will need to do lots and lots of cutting!

Are you making your own pipe work or using a kit?

Yeah i got the brackets that came off the cooler, not sure about bolts though? And yeah i have all the pipework that is supplied with the cooler too. And im sure i have a dremel kicking about somewhere, if theres loads of cutting, is it on the crash bar?

You use bolts that are on the car, just fits under existing screws on another bracket. The whole plastic front section needs removing to do it correctly though. I think a few members have drilled holes through the plastic to reveal the screws for the brackets as they only become visible once it's removed.

Are you local to me? I have a Fabia crash bar that has been cut for the SS FMIC and pipework in my Dads unit!

Not just the crash bar, the rear of the bumper (to get the bumper back on) and also the plastic areas that surrounds the cooler so that the cooler is actually able to fit :D

You can see it in the second pic mate, I'm not sure what it's called but I removed that. Wasn't that difficult really!

What turbo are you going for?

It's not the exterior of the bumper you need to cut, it's the inside (the plastic ribs, that give it strength).

Is it a standard SS cooler or a THS / Airtec one or something?

Yeah a standard SS cooler mate.

Finding it hard to do things now because I have no knowledge on what to do anymore.

What you got left to do? Is your intercooler pipe work on alright?

Yeah done the intercooler pipe work and that. Just don't know where things run as the turbo has different fittings plus I don't have enough knowledge to be confident to try it. Plus I don't know what goes where really :/
