Dvla v5c log book turnaround time?

Featured Replies

Alright folks, pretty much as the title suggests really..

How long does it normally take for the dvla to process and send your log book back for a change of vehicle details?

I've got a car sat there currently sorn that's already registered in my name that is raring to go but I can't tax it sadly. I don't think I can face ringing them and being on hold listening to greensleeves for 2 hours.

Sent my v5 back nearly a month ago as apparently a Superb combi is a two door saloon. Used the email enquiry service to chase which they don't read and send back pre programmed responses. One word hopeless!!

Ironically I'm actually trying to give them more money by increasing the tax rate for an engine change to a higher cc so if they don't do it soon I'm just going to tax it at the current rate and then let them chase me for the money.

Took just over two weeks for the V5 to come back from the Arosa but i've known it take longer. Might be worth chasing no matter how unpaletable- insurance companies don't need much of an excuse to worm out of paying, having an incorrectly registered car might be enough for them should the worst happen.

I asked this my dealer last week as its been about 3 weeks since he sent everything off, he simply said it could take up to 6 weeks. The day after it came through the post :wall:

Just received mine for the Citigo and it took 3 weeks.

Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk.

Mines got sent back after a month but with my name spelt incorrectly!

Im now MR CARRIE according to DVLA instead of currie!

That was sending 2 v5's away to change a plate! Ones correct and one is wrong!

How is that possible??

Do i bother sending it back or just leave it?

Could take longer if you are changing major details,

They may ask for details of where the engine has come from and it may need an inspection.

You could be lucky but it could take a while.

Took 3 weeks for us when we bought last month.

I thought you could de-sorn online?

re SORN.

A car stops being on SORN with the DVLA as soon as it goes to a new Registered Keeper.

Then the new keeper needs to declare SORN if still off road.

Many are not aware and get caught out by that.

Mine came back in under 14 days,

yes you can, basically you don't need to explicitly tell them it's un sorned, you just tax it by paying your car tax and they automatically assume you are using it on the road again.

yes I've sent them some phoney receipts and invoices etc, one of which the ink was still wet when I passed it over in the dvla local office, it doesn't need an inspection, nor have they got any legal right to demand one either.. The dvla local office were useless basically, I can't see the point of them even existing tbh, they just said oh yer we don't deal with these we just send them to Swansea, but I overheard them say that to about 10 different people in from of me in the queue on about 10 other unrelated subjects.

edit; I meant legit, not phoney obviously.

I always send recorded delivery just so I know they at least get there. Only ever wait 2/3 weeks max

When i sent mine off for the mini when i changed the engine it took around 2 weeks to get it back. Took around the same time when i bought the peugeot for the V5 to come back in my name.
