Fitting front coilovers trouble

Featured Replies

So was fitting the front coilovers today done the passengers side no problems at all, wedged it open and banged it out no troubles then moved onto the drivers side with the same procedure however the strut got half way to coming out and just seemed to keep bouncing, looked closer and it looked like the driveshaft was hitting the wishbone and preventing anymore movement for the shock to come out, anyone else had this problem? If so how did you get yours out?

The drivers side is harder as the driveshaft is shorter. If you compress the spring while still on the car it gives you more room to play with. That's what did when i fitted lowering springs and dampers

as the driveshaft is LONGER and bigger diameter it hit the X member before the strut comes out of the hub, either take the nut off the driveshaft and knock it back in a bit and remove the lower ball joint or try to compress the spring up.

Alright thanks I will give it a try :)

3 M8 bolts on the under side of the wishbone with captive nuts all connected on one strip. remove them, this helps with movement without splitting the balljoint or knocking the drive shaft back.

You have no need to compress the spring what so ever under removal of the complete suspension unit.
