Parts code challenge - anyone up for it?

Featured Replies

I need tog et a replacement part. Not even sure if this will be available as a separate part, however without a code I'm probably not going to get very far.

So, description of the part I'm seeking:

Octy vRS - FL 2011.

Factory fitted Xenons.

Plastic cover that clips over the back of the unit. It has the ballast attached to it and you need to unclip it to get to the bulbs inside.

There are 4 clips - one in each corner. Unfortunately due to ham-fistedness one of mine now only has 3 clips on and I'd like to replace it :)

Do part departments still use those Slide type things which are displayed on a monitor.

They used to show all the parts needed say for a headlight or light cluster.

Each individual part had a  part number and arrows to where they actually fit.

Does it not have a part number stamped or cast into the part in question?

you mean a microfiche?

Times have moved on, it's all comptermerised now :(

Any help??

Microfiche is the bain of my life! joys of working on a 40 something year old aircraft!!!

Likely only as a whole unit

Hi again,

I didn't want to take the unit off again until I'd managed to source a replacement - if another clip were to go on re-attaching then things would be a lot worse :)

So there might be a part number on it, but I didn't want to strip the light down to find it!

So looking at the exploded diagram (thanks by the way) it looks like part 13 (ballast) is attached to part 2 (cover) via 3x17 - screws.

So as someone above said, looks like part 3 that I need - I'll give my local dealer a call tomorrow and see if it's available as a separate item.

Thanks all.

Actually......

It's the cover cap for the Xenon bulb - so of course this will actually be

1Z0941608B - or part 2 - or cover for dipped beam.

OK, so still not 100% sure which of those two parts I require:

1Z0941608B

1Z0941607A

Exploded diagram isn't 100% clear.

Anyway, spoke to local dealers this morning - both parts are available as separate pieces at a price of £4.68+vat each.

So ordered both as I know I'll get the right part.

So I won then?

So I won then?

I guess so - not sure what the prize should be now!

Hmph. Well I eventually got around to collecting the parts earlier today and neither of them are the part I wanted/needed!

One of the parts is a small cap which looks like ot would cover the access to bulbs, the other is clear plastic that would across the back of the light unit - but it looks like the one on my old car with Halogen bulbs, so nothing to do with Xenon units at all.

So now I'm unsure as to the part codes listed on the exploded diagram linked in tis thread.

I guess the only option I'm going to have it to strip down the light again and see if there is a part code stamped on the existing/broken part.

Why wont the dealer look up the part number for you?.

When I bought the underseat storage box for the drivers seat he looked at a parts fiche for a left habd drive car on his computer and got the part number within a few minutes.

I'm sure that would probably work - the issue is actually "describing" the part.

I'll try as I described it in my first post and see if that yields anything.
