Help Please! VRS Crashed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Unfortunately I went into the back of someone in my 2006 fabia vrs 1.9 tdi.

No body was hurt and not to much exterior damage to my car but the airbags went off.

I have replaced my dash the airbags and steering wheel also the airbag ecu.

When I crashed the power steering stopped working straight away and hasnt worked since.

What could have caused this??

Also how do I get the airbag light reset?

Thanks Mitch

The airbag light will need resetting with VAG COM, I cant help with the power steering.

Will a normal local garage have this or will it need to go to a repairer or specialist?

I presume you've checked the pump for damage? It's under the passenger side front wheelarch and I'd imagine it's probably been damaged in the crash?

A local VW breakers to me had a VAG COM, see if there are any near you, he used it on mine to check for problems (didn't have any) and did it all for free.

Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left, then centre it. It should loosen up.

Is the yellow steering wheel light on? ideally it needs to be done with vagcom, but sometimes works by just doing full locks.

Airbag deployment will log crash data in the steering ECU and disable the PAS, the fault codes need clearing from the steering ECU.  Failing that check the fuses on top of the battery.

Is the lid to fill the pump what I can see under the battery?

I have just turned the wheel to full lock a few times and still no power steering!

Need to remove my seats next to replace the seat belt then ill use a moble diagnostics to try knock the airbag light off!

Thanks for the help guys!!!!

9/10 you need to put the setting in for your 'steering angle sensor' always happens on damaged vag cars, give it a search.

Also i have a stolen recovered fab vrs before, and the battery was so drained it would operate the power steering, its semi electrically or something along those lines.

Yes, it's a bit of a pain to get to. I think you have to remove the battery box to gain access to it.
