Considering "trial and error" approach

Featured Replies

A decision not taken lightly but I'm wondering the real risks involved bearing in mind this will be undertaken by someone with serious electronics experience....

bear in mind I'll also be armed with plugged in vag com ;) which I hope will be useful. Assuming I get the wiring wrong initially I therefore believe VAG com will register a fault... So, assuming I match up one wire at a time, (no "other" symptoms permitting) until the fault fails to re-appear, I have it right?

Repeat this process until no faults exist.... This then is my "trial and error" proposal for sorting out which wires do what with regards to the link between the engine harness wiring and the compartment wiring.

Suggestions and flaming to follow.

Buy a vRS?

Do it at your own risk. I live connected to a earth into an ecu = lots of smoke.

Its suprising how much smoke they can get into a little wire, connect it up wrong and see what I mean.

Jason, when I suggested "guess" on MSN, I didn't realise you were going to take me seriously!!!

I accept no responsibility for Jason frying his ecu

If I were you mate, I'd just get a complete vRS loom. Might be a couple of hundred quid, but surely would be safer...

Try another dealer for the pics first.

I was hoping not to say this but .........I did mention you may need the whole front loom a little while ago......there has got to be someone who will give you a copy of the wiring diagrams.....if not can you borrow someones vrs and hunt round the engine bay to see where the colours go.....doing it blind is not a good idea :thumbdwn:

I wouldnt do it, put 12v up the wrong connector and you will fry the ecu.

I wouldnt do it, put 12v up the wrong connector and you will fry the ecu.

Indeed - and aren't there 6x5x4x3x2x1 = 720 combinations - alot of chance of getting it wrong.

Write down exactly what you need and get everyone here to go to their local dealer and ask. Someone must have luck, and if not the dealers must get narked off enough to say yes to the umpteenth person who goes and asks? :D

Jason,

PM me with exactly what you need to know.

PM sent - suffice to say I won't be following this style of experimentation....

Quite simply what I need is as much wiring info as possible about the ATD engine compartment loom and the ASZ engine harness loom
