My spoiler has a rash....

Featured Replies

Today I washed the car and was gutted to find the spoiler has a bubbling effect on every crease bend and corner. My car is black an these bubbles are almost white. They are raised and in small clusters.

I have never noticed this before and I'm quite annoyed that it's happening now. Anyone have any clue what causes this? How to prevent and improve?

I'll try get some photos

Sounds like moisture has got under the lacquer.there are a few threads on this subject as It's a common issue, and unfortunately it will only get worse. The only way to solve it is to respray the spoiler.

It's well documented this problem. Also happens on the Fabia vrs too.

Mine has just bubbled up too in the last few days, but it appears to be just the lacquer that is lifting. Got one of the neighbours who runs one of those mobile bodywork touch-up vans to have a look and he recommends having the whole spoiler re-lacquered. I had a quick look at how to remove the spoiler this afternoon, and removed the 2 small torx screws on the underside of the spoiler at one end, but it still didn't come loose. Are there some more inside the tailgate ??

sounds like its on more than just skodas. Was just chatting to a bloke with an 08 plate Jag XF with it doing the same thing.

afaik its just those screws, I expect there is some kind of adhesive too if it wont come off

I'm thinking about having mine wrapped, there are mixed results for a respray.

They're bonded/sealed and screwed to the tailgate according to ElsaWin.

Going to wrap mine I think. I have some spare carbon wrap going about give it a whirl and see how it looks. Can't be worse that bubbles.

Cheers Stormchaser....a mate at work used to work in a bodyshop and says the easiest way to break the seal is with cheesewire ???...have to admit that's a new one on me...I was going to use my biggest crowbar

Shame really they do bubble....was close to getting the hatch but ended up with the estate.....

What's the best way to break the seal and lift the spoiler without damaging the tailgate ??

Sorted it...got some cheesewire from local motor factors and managed to break seal on one side then just twisted spoiler which broke seal on other side....getting it resprayed and lacquered for £80 this coming week !!
