Recommend me a driving day/experience

Featured Replies

My parents want to buy me a driving day for my birthday but finding a decent one is a minefield with the myriad of sites out there advertising.

I have seen this one:

http://www.6thgearexperience.com/Supercar-Choice-Driving-Experiences (Supercar Treble or Best of the Best)

This seems the best value for money from what i have seen and would be a Brunters.

Has anyone used this company or can recommend one they have used.

I have always been put of by these 'days' as I always get the feeling i will come away disappointed or underwhelmed.

Thanks in advance.

I recently took my dad on one for his birthday, he works for a car hire company so driving something out of this world was ideal for him. I bought mine from Virgin experience, it was a double Supercar experience for two and we both drove the gallardo and the Nissan GTR which was mind blowing. They actually let you put the foot to the floor. We did two laps in each and to be honest didnt last very long because you was going that quick. I would definitely recommend the GTR over the gallardo though.

Briskoda track days at Castle Combe or Oulton Park ;)

want to do a supercar. Next door has a gtr and 2 down a v8 vantage so I could ask for a lend ;)

As for track days, done a few in a clio cup, 205gti and a s2000, as well as a few laps of the ring in mine. Wouldn't want to do a full track day in the vrs though.

This is why I want something that isn't going to disappoint me.

so has anyone used 6th gear? They've got good reviews on trip advisor.

Personally I would avoid doing the normal supercars.

I did a full day at 3 Sisters in their Formula 1 experience. Your drive a number of cars during the day, each getting faster until you are let loose in a Formula 1 car.

In my experience after driving the Lambo's and Ferrari's etc, they were all a bit disappointing compared to the single seaters (I got to drive Formula Ford & Formula 3).

It's great to say that you have driven the Supercars, but if you are after a thrill go for something lighter & more track orientated.

I have just had my Birthday and SWMBO has bought me an Ariel Atom experience (after a few heavy hints). :) I reckon this would maybe something you might want to look at :)

Track days are brilliant and i do them every year.

I must admit I've always thought about doing one of these but I never have, it's difficult because I had heard bad things, such as you can only rev to X and can't go above X speed.

Will be interested find out which one you pick and if you think it's any good

Trip to the Nurburgring if the budget will stretch that far?

To save thrashing your car to within an inch of its life, you can hire a prepared track day car there too, albeit for several hundred pounds.

What an absolute wheeze though. On my bucket list . :p

I worked for Drive Me .net several years ago, and we were very strictly instructed to not let punters attempt to kill the cars, many wanted to believe me,  hence a few dissapointed faces at the end of the sessions.

Think you'll find most of them have similar criteria to work on as the cars have to be used as a money earning business for them as well as a form of pleasure for the paying public.

Yea, but a few laps in one of THEIR cars!!

My youngest is doing a 4 lap Gallarado experience at Ty Croes next month.

Told him not to expect the track to burst into flames as he drives around it though.

If you have plenty of money the Palmersport days are excellent.

The Mercedes World driving experiences are also supposed to be very good.

If you don't mind waiting till next year, see if you can get on one of the Vauxhall VXR track experiences. 35 quid for a full hour of driving flat out in their cars.

Avoid anything sold in WHSmith or similar. Total waste of money.

I'm working with a couple of guys on driver experience enhancement days. Details still being worked on, loosely a day with 2 ex racing drivers on skid pans/track and out driving.

Personally if I had the choice I'd avoid a 'supercar' day out. Like you the odd track day would leave me with just enough 'sense' the supercar day wasn't the best value.

Great problem to have though...

The one I've done is drove the E63 AMG and the SLS for a day at Mercedes Benz world. Absolutely amazing day. I've only ever driven 2 cars, my vRS being the quickest, so it was another world for me!

Keep an eye on the tracks websites (like Silverstone, brands etc) as most often have special deals.
