OBD Display Modules

Featured Replies

I believe you can buy a display that fits into OBD socket that shows all sorts of information about the engine temps etc.

Anybody know where to get one from and which one to buy?

Thanks soft scoop,  will this work with iphone 5?

Or I could use an old HTC phone just as a display maybe, bolt it to the dash.  Got me thinking now.

Nope. Apple don't allow you access to those layers of the bluetooth. You'd need to be jailbroken. The joys of Apple products....

I am looking at 7" or double din screen now to replace the stereo and cubby box this should make a cool looking display for Torque app to run on, once done I will get some pictures up.

I use dashcomand app with an elm327 wifi

Dashcomand looks ok but is a bit pricey IMO, as you know the Golf is a shoe string project and $49 for an app isn't on my radar, thanks for the info though, I will keep trawling for apps, I think the tablet/screen will come from CEX or such a place where they are quite cheap.

Novatech do 7" android tablet for £49 at the minute

Ordered my bluetooth obd2 plug in thingy but I am not familiar with android or tablets either, so, all I want to run is Torque on the tablet, I will be charging it via the car as it will be fixed in the dash and it must communicate via bluetooth with the obd2 plug, I am happy to buy used as I don't want to spend a heap of money to leave it in the car.

 What tablet do you recommend?

Just bought it also :)

You needing a new stereo? I can recomend this 1 from halfords >.< but it's only £100 http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_874331_langId_-1_categoryId_165474

It's the stereo ive used for over the year holds the phone great and it charges. So no need for window sucker holder's sat nav's ect obscuring the window

I should add won't work on the Iphone 5, Also radio reception isn't the best and I woudn't bother with the app for it as it doesnt play from the last song when you re start your car not downloading the app and keeping the normal way of playing music through the phone sorts that.

Thats the only downfalls imo

Thanks Dave, I don't have a radio in the Golf as it is heavy and weight is bad!  Radio looks good though.

I will mount the ipod in the hole left by the missing radio and cassette holder, yes, cassettes!!  I could get a bigger tablet in there so will probably end up with a Samsung or something similar in there to run with the bluetooth thingy I have ordered. (Good job my son is here to make it all work)

Then it looks like I will have to buy a wi fi one.  I am really not good at this modern shiz, I have the option for iPhone now with a wi fi obd2 thing and as I have a bluetooth elm on the way I can keep my options open for the android approach,,

Look on the bright side, I now have two options      Thanks for the heads up

quite a few of the ebay wi fi  elms state not suitable for iPhone iPad and iPod, this could be a fairly long search for the right one.

Elm arrived today, we linked it to an HTC phone for test purposes, I have to say it is ACE!

I would be quicker listing all the things it does not show as there were pages and pages of things it would monitor, real time boost pressure, fuel rail pressure, oil temp even if a fault light has been displayed and for how long!

Can't wait to link this to a tablet and also to try dash command as a comparison.

Thanks for your advice guys, as always it was valuable.

I too received mine for iphone and must admit it's not the best elm327 with dashcommand. Delay reading's mpg way off from what the dash says and 80% of the time doesn't work. Connected but the real time readings don't work

Feed up with apple looking forward to my contract running out to go android

I have the wifi one coming also, hope it does work when it arrives.

We had to use HTC as the Samsung we have would not connect. So Android is not perfect either.
