Is it advisable to have windows tinting (privacy glass)

Featured Replies

Aye maybe, but only in your opinion. I looked at the tint on the dealer demo (blue estate) and it looked a bit gangsta. But that's just my opinion, the one that counts when making buying decisions however.

Maybe they were aftermarket ones seeing as the demos were all weird specs and I don't think any had the factory sunset glass. I have it on mine and it's very subtle, inside looking out you can barely tell it's even tinted.

Will be ordering on mine.

Keeps the car temp down, glare off rear passengers and your valuables hidden. Bonus is it looks lovely too. Never got the drug dealer thing, dont think drug dealers drive around in black bmws with tints as much as burglers dont wear white and black striped suits with a swag bag.

if you like it, go for it. Who cares what others think,

I would say if you have to publicly justify your decision, then you do care what others think.

Tints are strange - they have certain connotations, deserved or not, which sometimes override the pros/cons discussion. I have them on one car, not on another, and I will not have them on my Octavia for practical and aesthetic reasons. Others' mileage will of course vary.

This is a personal opinion and nothing else.

Tinted side rear windows spoil the appearance of the vehicle. They break the flow lines which run through colour, curve, angle and shape. The introduction of a tinted window adjacent to a clear one interrupts the important aspect of visual design and creates the effect of a van. Abrupt, harsh and functional.

The craft of visual design should not be confused with functional modification.

They're great in summer and great if you have really young children /babies.

They were on the list of must haves when we got the Touran

I have had dark tints on my last 5 cars ( all estates) it helps when I  am carrying stuff to exhibitions etc when the load cover has to be removed to get a full load in the back. stops the nosey tykes looking at whats in the car

After not having these on our last car and having them previously they were a must for us on both the Octavia and the Citigo. They are great for the kids from summer sun or low winter sun (between rain showers), help keep the temp down in sunlight, help stop headlight glare from the millions of idiots on our roads who can't figure out how to adjust their headlight level, they are a useful safety feature as a thief can't see in and most of the time (I do think there are exceptions) I think they improve the look of the car.

On the other hand I don't like them stupidly dark like a US limo and I would never let anyone pull my doors apart just to have them. They would have to be a factory order for me.

I am completely with you on that. I would not like the limo tint however i think sun shade tint is a must for every car as it increases the privacy and makes the glass shatter proof. I don't understand why would any one associate black windows with drug dealers. I hve had 9 previous car with tinted windows and never ever had been pulled over.

Most importantly it protects the passengers and seat fabric from UV rays. Its like sun glasses for a car.

Its my opinion, i know people might not agree with me but I am in full favour of tinted windows.
