BT retrofit microphone doesnt work

Featured Replies

I've fitted a new OEM 7P6-035-730-J bt unit (mk2 octavia, bolero, no maxidot, or multi function steering wheel) without touching the coding the bolero uses the telephone and pairs with phones to make calls fine. However it seems the mic just doesn't pick up sound. I had a look with vcds to see what was being reported. Under 19 CAN gateway I added telephone 77, then updated the coding. My scan is still giving me errors though. Is it a duff mic or something else?

Heres the log:

What's the loom like? My loom had some white connectors close to the head unit. It allows for Columbus voice control using the single Mic....

If you have them, try swapping them over. I think that if you have them wrong on the bolero, you effectivly have no Mic

Agree with above. Check connectors.

I don't think I've got the white connector version its pretty much this:

http://www.carsystems.pl/bluetooth-installation-kit-plug-play-for-7p6-and-5k0-module-foam-cover,id125.html

Which has quad lock connectors everywhere so everything goes in one way. From what I can see off of here:

http://www.my-gti.com/1313/volkswagen-rcd-510-pin-assignments

My mic connection is going to pins 1 & 7 which seems correct.

Any ideas??

There are three white connectors are in the middle of the loom in that picture, two are connected together when it arrives and the mic you fitted presumably went into the loose one? But if you swap those connections over before fitting the mic, it should then work.

Thanks guys, where the conenctors locked together so nicley I didn't think they were wrong. It was just a case as you all said of putting the white connectors together. So easy. And there I was testing everything with my multi-meter and convinced I had a dodgy mic... :whew::blush:

With that resolved I can't for the life of me get the stereo back in flush, :wall:  the new black multi-connector is just too big. Considering chopping a bit off unless there is a non-destructive solution?

If you take off the HVAC controls under the head unit (4 screws, and a couple of 1-way fit connectors) you can get you hand in and guide the cables down and into that gap......it's huge! I did this when I had an MDI kit in the car to take up the extra cable from the in-line connector.

Also make sure the aerial cables haven't got in the way of anything as the unit slides back in.

All done now!  :whew:  used the space underneath but still needed to remove a bit of the mounting with the hacksaw to enable the connectors to feed through.

  • 6 months later...

There are three white connectors are in the middle of the loom in that picture, two are connected together when it arrives and the mic you fitted presumably went into the loose one? But if you swap those connections over before fitting the mic, it should then work.

I believe that the three white connectors are as follows:

A. White socket connector with screened cable which goes to bluetooth unit - Microphone connection to bluetooth module

B. White plug connector (pins) with blue/white and white wires - Microphone output from Bolero

C. White socket connector with purple and black/grey wires - Microphone input to Bolero

On this basis I think that connectors A and B should be plugged together, and the microphone should be connected to connector C.

I assume that it is done in this way for one of two reasons:

1. To provide flexibility if the microphone needs to be fed to the bluetooth unit rather than the HU.

2. Because it is easier to do this than connect the screened cable to the pins on the multi-connector.

I incline to reason 2, but it is a bit confusing and I would have thought there would be a more elegant way of achieving the result if that were the case.

While posting, I need to source a microphone cable that goes from connector C to the microphone in the roof. Does anyone know where I can obtain one?
