The new vRS, does it have a problem already ?

Featured Replies

Just for fun Ive been doing a bit of thinking and I think the new vRS may have a problem...............the cost.

Now admittedly no details have yet been given by Skoda UK but lets take a quick look at the likely direct opposition. (prices are RRP)

Seat Leon FR (180 Bhp)

The new Leon which is launched very soon and shares the Octavia 2 platform will be more expensive im sure.

Much as it really greives me to say it I wish I'd bought an ST instead of a Scooby when I splashed the cash.

I certainly wouldn't have lost so much money.

Well you can discount the 2 SEATs as they are no longer made, and the Civic will be replaced with a new model by the end of the year, with performance versions of both not until next year at the earliest.

The new vRS will probably be around the price of the VXR and ST, if not a little lower, with Cupra and Type R versions (when released) a little more.

Pricing of the new leons:

Leon 1.6 Essence --

That new Leon is looking mighty fine , and most of those prices look ok.

The Altea 2.0tdi sport is 17k on the dot so they are probably right about the Leon 2.0tdi sport model being 500 quid less.

It does make price comparisons with the octavia a little interesting as the Octy 2.0tdi sport is 17115 , so assuming that there is a 2.0 PD170 VRS coming then it would mean either a drop in price for the PD140 sport , or probably 18.5k.

The only one of the Leon prices that looks wrong is the 2.0T Sport as that's only 600 quid more than the normal 2.0FSI which would be a bargain if true

The reason I asked the question was simply to get everyones thoughts as to where Skoda are going. Up untill now their cars have (arguably) been underpriced when compared to the opposition, this is what makes them so attractive. If they are now going to enter the same price bracket as the competion then they are going to have to come up with something very special indeed.

Heres hoping

Well the "ordinary" octavias all compare very favorably with the smaller and more expensive golf in all respects other than the badge (for some people) so there is no reason why the VRS won't compare well with the GTI

having been in the new Golf GTI today, i am finding it very difficult to understand how VW can justify the current price :thumbdwn:

I hope the Octy vRS is on a par with the Leon :)

The Leon does look something special.

If it's priced right I'd seriously consider a diesel (140 or 168 bhp) version.

Watch "this" Space or even Skodas space :)

its a real dilemma...I would like the performance of the astra or the ST...but I love the huge boot of my current vRS..its ideal for my fishing kit and the can swallow not only mine but the 2 people I generally go with as well..I know for a fact the astra wil not manage that..and doubt whether the new ST will as well :(

I am just going to bide my time as see what they do with it
