Oh, don't know, really... I just scanned a Dutch car audio forum where it was stated that support stopped from December 2002 - have also learned that because of that, you can get mstations now for prices down to 150 euroquid ( ) on the free/second-hand market.

So it's gone into pure DIY/enthusiasts land now. Have already read about finding the right "voltage regulator" and what have you - enough to give me a headache. Others rave about the thing, though, having put in a Maxtor 40 Gig drive etc. etc.

BTW, mstation site at www.mymstation.com or www.mstation.co.za has stopped working too...

Traxdata has filed for bankrupcy quite a while ago. No support for mStations is maintained, although the Neo 35 Car jukebox seems to be a similar product.

If I didn't get my mStation so cheap, I would have gone for a Dension unit.

So at what price did you get, if I may be so bold to ask?

I got mine 2nd user for

Hmm, so 150 euros is indeed the current street price!

Have you got used to the ugly looks by now? ;)

It is still in its original packaging in the garage :). I'm waiting for the Blaupunkt HU to arrive and then it should be just a matter of pulling a few cables again and install it. It is going in the boot though, as as you say, it is too ugly to bear :D.

That's no good -- can't have more than 1 ugly thing inside the car :D

Anyway it's no good for me -- wouldn't have any shiny lights to show off !!

Look, it's quite simple: 30GB available from a system the size of a mobile phone. This fits snugly underneath your already uprated HU (with AUX-in facility).

The albums/songs are already sorted by the computer you download them (via CDDB) to into: artist, genre etc so there's NO typing neccessary. At which time you can then make up playlists/change what's on the iPod and even rate the songs/albums you have on it.

Robert's your father's brother as they say..........................:D :D

Cheers

Hugh

Support for the mstations is still maintained through friendly UK SSI dealers.....

RE storage cost, I was talking more about upgrades than when you buy it, as eventually you will run out of space. How much is a 20gb keg cartridge on it's own?

The whole PC \ CDDB side is the same for most of these players.

Ian,

Unfortunately, the iPod drive can't be upgraded anymore than it's original value (i.e if you buy a 30GB one it stays that way). What you can do though is use it by way of adding more external storage as it supports several file types (sorry, can't remember which but I could find out).

Cheers

Hugh

OK have now narrowed down search to either Kenwood & Keg or Alpine & mp3 CD autochanger, quite like the look of some of the new Alpine gear -- and their changer looks like it might be small enough to mount in the glovebox -- which would save having to run any pescy wiring to the boot(I'm a lazy bar stuard aint I)still got to get the finances back in focus first -- now let me think, trip to Jabba shielded by being "on a training course",how to explain sudden appearance of shiny new ICE - "I'm trying it out on longterm test for a magazine" ?that sound a bit far fetched -- will have to keep thinking........

.........all suggestions gratefully received.......although may be totally ignored :D :D

How about smashing the passengers side window, removing the HU and CD changer and tell her it was stolen? Obviously, you don't want to claim that on insurance as it would be fraud...

How about ring her during the day -- tell her it was done outside work, then just turnup with new gear -- without having to break glass or maje freudulent claim...... :D

Q you are a genius sir

God I am in trouble if this ever get's seen by a certain persons eyes

I like to thing of it as adapting information so that it is suitable for female intake,so as not to confuse/annoy or worry......

Conversation had about 2 hours ago......where's the Skoda logo gone from your wheels ?

there in the garage...with the old wheels

But you had a VW before - why have they got Skoda logo's....

The gods honest - I kid u not

Has she actually noticed you drive a different car since you bought the vRS?

Don't worry dear, these are new seats as the old ones needed a bit of cleaning...

Actually yes,but still hasn't noticed the exhaust,or for that matter the number plate........

"you won't believe the number the garage has issued me!" -- :D

Should point out female in question is my 87 year old gran, god bless her - who lives with me,cooks for me cleans for me and is generally the best gran in the world ever.

She get's very uptight about me spending money - any money-classic example - Last xmas bought her some M&S vouchers -- she promplty went out and bought ME a jacket with the vouchers.

When it comes to costs of things I use the third rule i.e if it cost

Not sure if the Alpine changer would fit in the glove box - it wouldn't really need it to be that handy anyway though, as with 6 MP3 discs in there it's not like you'll be constantly swapping... :D

And it fits suspiciously snugly in the polystyrene cut out next to the spare wheel, so you don't loose any storage space!

The Alpine pack I got was the MP3 changer and a tape head unit - came to

  • 1 year later...

I found this thread whilst seeing what people though of the Kenwood Keg, and i'm thinking of getting one myself, the only problem is that NOBODY ANYWHERE seems to have bought one and reviewed it.

I just want the upgraded head unit to control everything, I cant be dealing with sticking other displays to the dash (if only someone made a face panel for the external players for the 2nd DIN slot, then i would do that).

So the Kenwood Keg makes perfect sense, one obvious advantage over the MP3 CD Changer route is that you can bring the hard disk in of an evening/weekend and clear down all the crap you dont want and put other stuff on it, whereas with the cd changer you'll constantly be burning cd's!!!

I had a single CD mp3 player in my last car and within a few months I had a glove box with about 40-50 cd's in it in a folder which was a PAIN to keep changing so 6 discs really wouldnt serve me!

Its a shame that the in dash Dension doesnt have more high end HU features and that the satellite display for the Dension boot mount HDD player doesnt fit in the free DIN slot, cos that would be REAL slick perched underneath a high end HU and hooked up via the Aux In, none of this silly stick on dash crap!
