Cleaning engine bay?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I want to clean my grotty engine bay. Can anyone advise the best way, what to do, protect and any products that work best?

Cheers

I depends how anal ( lol :D ) you are. If you want it looking really nice, you'll be dismantling it all and cleaning items individually. If you just want it looking half decent, you can jet wash/steam clean it.

You want to wrap plastic bags around all the electrics

quite anal, but i looks like crap at the mo how do you mean dismantling?

cheers

Tool for the job are;

APC All Purpose Cleaner(flash or something like)

Micro fibre cloths

Couple of brushes

Garden pump action plant feeder (you don't really need one but it comes in handy)

Autobrite Engine protector.

I always make sure the engine is warm before washing it as it aids drying.

I mix the APC 4-1 on a dirty engine bay and use a spray bottle to cover the engine and agitate with a brush,a scrub here and a scrub there.

Then I hose the water off with the hozelock garden plant feeder pump and you can get a fine mist over the engine with out getting it too wet.

Wipe of excess with micro fibre cloth and the spray the whole engine bay with Autobrite engine protector and leave to soak into everything. This is just a quick run down of what to do, just don't go mad with the water on the engine around electrical components.

Wow that cleaning method changed your air filter housing too :giggle:

Yep the APC is amazing ha ha

Looks great after the work you put into cleaning it, nice one!

I use APC diluted, on the dash etc. once it has dried I use poorboys natural look and it gets the interior looking great :)

The popes boys stuff for interior is brilliant. It gives a natural new dash look. Best stuff I've used.

Good effort, looks really good.
