As Grangemouth goes in to a cold shutdown despite strike being called off and will lose about a million barrels of refined production. Who will stock up and who will not and heed the advice not to?

Britain sleep-walking into new energy crisis as Grangemouth shuts down, AA warns

Britain is sleep walking its way into a new energy crisis that will see millions of motorists hit by petrol "super spikes", the AA warned tonight, as talks to resolve the bitter dispute at Grangemouth oil refinery collapsed.  Motoring chiefs warned that the uncertainty over the future of Grangemouth reflected the growing concerns over the rest of the refining industry in the UK following the closure of Coryton in Essex last year.  The AA said it feared that without an urgent action plan from Ministers, the country would soon be as reliant on imported fuel as it is on imported gas and electricity to keep the lights on. This could lead to "super spikes" similar to the one at the start of 2012, when speculators were blamed for pushing unleaded to a record of more than 140p per litre.  The AA's attack came as forecourts in Scotland were urged to build up stocks in the event Grangemouth remains shutdown beyond Tuesday.

Ideos will close down completely and not re open

The CEO flew in from Switzerland today, with the unltimatum, they are losing £10m per month, China hold 51% of the shares and are not happy about the plant anyway

As you can see by the dearth of ships, there are no more tankers bound for Grangemouth,

see the ships here

http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/

They are already diverted, or waiting

You see if you loaded up 50k tons of fuel at £1.32per Litre, and you hang off shore for a week until the price is £1.45pl then you make a better profit

What is the Scottish or UK Government doing to keep the wheels of industry turning, will we have to dip in to the strategic reserves to keep key things running?

What a disaster for the First Minister, No OIL  The rigs will have to pump it to Norway (it is a shorter journey anyway)

Vote for me free prescriptions, free everything Jam Tomorrow, fuel 5% cheaper than the ENG/WEL/NI UNION

Only forgotten one thing, If Scotland goes independent, who is to say his party will be the Government

Yeah Jam tomorrow

Lots of overtime for the remaining English and Welsh refineries, and mega tanker driver employment, (I do not think they are allowed the hours to drive with overtime)

No forces drivers, we aint got any forces anymore unless they do 48 on in the Stan 48 off 48 on in AFGRANGE 48 week about

On my previous post you can see an Historic page, you will see many tankers heading for Grangemouth, today only ONE the ones a day behind are you will see heading for Rotterdam or Bremerhaven  :-(

There are more ways than the BeebC to read the news as you can see for yourself, what is already happening tonight elsewhere and make your own mind up

We have free Prescriptions now, Care for the Elderly and Further/Higher Education, Toll free Bridge & Tunnels, Most Hospital Car Parks etc

SNP are in their second term in Government and running the Scottish Economy now on the Finances they have, not on the strength of future oil duty and income.

A country of only 5.3 million people with many natural resources other than Oil & Gas, and renewables without the need of Nuclear Power or Nuclear Deterrent spending, if not forced to spend on and host them by the Westminster Government.

(we even have surpluses in Finance & Grants that the UK Government has withheld and which we could have used.)

We know well in Scotland that if there is a vote for independence that a future government might not mean the SNP party being in charge.

We also know if there is a vote against Independence that it might not be a SNP lead Government in Scotland.

Also not a clue who will be elected in to the UK Government if there is not an Independent Scotland and the UK continues as it is.

Or what a future UK Government will then do about EU Membership.

Or what a Scottish Government or the People of Scotland would decide it wants.

One thing is clear,

if Oil& Gas piped into Scotland or the UKfrom the North Sea and the refining is disrupted. its not just a worry to Scotland or Alex Salmond,

a few more than him will need to bother.

It is hardly going to be a case for anyone living or working in the UK to gloat if Grangemouth was to close.

(which really is never going to happen unless there was a very big accident or disaster.

Grangemouth Refinery  is not only about processing & producing Road & Heating Fuel.)

no doubt some care and maintenance work that is best done during a shut down will be happening and this while the wholesale fuel price rises.

& HMRC will be properly on the case. Because they have to and are being watched.

Because obviously up to now the UK Government is happy that they never look to closely. Not at Ex BP Facilities.

Salmond is painting that It will be the same or maybe better than now,

it can not be much worse, than where in a Country that does not vote for a Liberal or Conservative Government, but gets its income & taxation ruled by them anyway.

Salmond is one man and he will not be saying anything in a decade or 2.  Changes are to last much longer than he will be on this earth.

Funny that he manages to get under the skin of so many.

With the politicians its because they know that he knows what lies were told and where the money has been going,

and who has it now.

The UK Governments Labour, Conesrvative & now Coalition are the ones that have allowed the likes of Grangemouth Refinery Owners to do their own thing and be run and taxed as the various owners over the years have liked.

Blackholes in Pension Schemes and the likes.

There are people in England, who are English for several generations, that think "Good on you Scotland" you are lucky to get the choice and do you own thing rather than be ruled by a Government that is purely London Centric and to hell with you in the hinterland.

I hope it works and works well.  Alex S is quite left wing, effectively more left wing than Labour so I strongly support the principals that Scotland has, is and will try and implement under the SNP.

Free prescriptions is not always as wonderful as it seems.  Talking to a Cancer treatment specialist and he was talking about Wales and that yes they get free prescriptions but do not have the budget for the full cancer treatment, the pot is only so big.

I do fear for the rest of us in that losing left of centre MPs from Scotland going to Westminster makes in more likely we will have to continue to suffer right wing, bigoted, screw the public servants let the City of London continue to steal or lunch and future, hey ho.

Mexican stand off, a game of chicken.  Everyone losses, Plant owners, workers, Scotland and diesel and petrol buyers in the North of the UK.

http://www.scotsman.com/news/scotland/top-stories/grangemouth-salmond-warns-plant-in-mortal-danger-1-3148857

Grangemouth: Salmond warns plant in ‘mortal danger’

Pat Rafferty, Unite’s Scottish secretary, said: “It is absolute nonsense. There is no reason whatsoever the site can’t get back into production, irrespective of this safety report.

“There would be no reason to take the site down again after a few days. There is no industrial action on. There is none planned. We are not threatening them with strike action, and they have formally been told that.

“They’re using this as a bargaining chip; they’re using it to blackmail workers. They’re basically saying: ‘If you don’t accept the changes to your job terms, we will keep the plant down.’”

Rafferty added: “We want to work something out for the benefit of all, but the plant is being kept down to essentially force agreement to these changes. We are looking at a pension scheme that will be changed to a money purchase scheme, a pay freeze until 2016, redundancy terms to be scrapped to the statutory minimum and overtime being reduced. Taking into account of all the changes, workers could see £10,000 shaved off their salary every year.

“We are telling our members to reject this [the Monday deadline]. Ineos need to sit down and negotiate with us.”

30% of the UK fuel supply comes from grangemouth, last week ineos said the union was putting the country at risk by threatening a strike. Now they themselves are threatening never to open it. Who is threatening the country now?

Numerically Scottish mps are insignificant, they don't affect the government the UK gets. As for prescription charges, it is cheaper to give them free of charge than to means test prescriptions, so the current system costs the government less than when they asked people to pay.

Insignificant?

59 MP's of whom 41 are Labour .

Scottish MP's could determine which party wins an overall majority for the foreseeable future.

The last time it happened was 1974, 2nd time it happened in the last 100 years. Yes, insignificant. All the recent labour governments would still have been elected even if Scotland had votedc100% SNP, lib dem or even if hell had frozen over and we returned 59 to Roy MPs

That 9% resulted in a Coalition government in 2010.

Very very very rare. :giggle:

Ok I mean we very very rarely get a government formed by the party we vote for other than because the English vote for it. The last time we got a government on the basis of our own votes was 1974.

Voting labour and getting tory & lib dem isn't what I'd call deciding the outcome.

The Bullingdon club comedy figure?

Wanting the extra London airport capacity in the Thames estuary shows that he is a complete muppet.

Delaying the 3rd running way at Heathrow has lost the UK 30,000 jobs and handed Euro hub activity to Skipol and Frankfurt.

Living proof there are more horse's asses than horses.
