I don't mind trying cleaning. I can afford that.

Although I read some bad reports about it on another forum...

I'm just working out where everything is in the engine so I know where to stick the tube and which bit to wiggle!

I'll try to get VCDS on it to see if you guys are correct, although I expect that you are.

Let us know how you get on and which product you decided to try. Go with the Innotec kit and you'll be fine.

Innotec about £40. Forte about £20.

I'll try the Innotec as I really can't see the Forte being any better than Mr Muscle...

Will order some as soon as I've worked out what to do with it.

If it doesn't work and you need a new turbo I can highly recommend Midland Turbo in Nottingham - next day delivery of an exchange unit (a quality build as well) and they collect your old one up to a fortnight later.

 

You need to change the oil, oil filter and turbo oil feed and return pipe at the same time if you are going to do the job properly. Around £650 all in if you get the parts from TPS and get a local garage to fit for you.

Drive to work this morning. EML light on.

Drive home. No EML light.

Progressively gave it some beans after getting the engine nice and warm and no noticeable issues with the turbo playing up.

Managed to redline it for a bit and worked high revs in 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears. No issues at all.

Will still scan to see what the EML was on for and will give it a clean with Mr Muscle (I've been reading that thread again) or the Innotec stuff, but I'm still not convinced that I know where to put it so am holding off until I am sure.

Anyone near Hereford / Worcester able to help me out with cleaning the turbo?

Fairly easy to find on a BKD - remove the air intake pipe to the turbo that runs across the engine bay behind the cam cover. You will then see the EGR cooler sat above the turbo. The silver pipe that comes from the EGR valve is bolted to the cooler, look underneath for the small outlet pipe with the flexi section in it that links the turbo to the cooler, remove this and feed the hose down in to the manifold.

It was a bit easier when I did mine as the EGR cooler had already magically fallen off :-)

I'll look again with the info you have supplied and see if I can convince myself enough that I am looking at the right pipes and will squirt the cleaner into the right place.

The tooth fairy's took mine!!   EGR + Cooler, they left £10 under the bonnet!!

I wish the tooth fairy would come and delete my DPF

As above - If you can manage withou your cae for a week have you original turbo reconditioned and save some ££

Doesn't save a huge amount I found, about £100 tops. I got a recon exchange for £310+vat, recon started from £200+vat, but can cost more depending how much they have to replace, up to the cost of an exchange unit, and you won't know how much until they inspect it.

Hi I have not used the Turbo cleaning products you suggest. How ever if you see my earlier posts the REVIVE kit I have tried a couple of time and I have had mixed results. It depends on how bad your turbo is. I would suggest the innotech kit as you don't have to remove the turbo.

 

BTW - In tank cleaners. My personal opinion would be more preventative measure that a sure fire cure for a specific problem.

I have purchased the innotec kit but have not used it yet. Some of these "in tank" solutions are quite expensive, especially the Bardahl one, they cannot just be "snake oil" and seem like a very easy option. My turbo has 300,000kms on it and at that mileage, it owes me nothing, I am just trying to explore the easier options before I go down the new turbo route!!

I know the innotec kit more than I know the snake oil solution. LOL

 

Make sure you read and follow the instructions carefully.  i.e. cold turbo, there may be more in the stage 1 product cleaner than you actually need. Give it time and don't rush it. Just think how long it takes some of those oven cleaners to work on your oven !!  Remember throughout stage 1 to work the VV lever

I've to done much with this for a while as the turbo hasn't caused any further issues until this week. And the EML had gone out.

 

Pushed the car a bit earlier this week and the turbo cut out at about 3500 rpm. Curiously so did the cruise control which it has done before.

Are these related to the turbo issues or is there a separate but coincidental issue?

Fan short is a seperate issue, I think Terminal 30 issues may be a dodgy ignition switch.

I also think they are unrelated. You already know what you have to do to cure the turbo issue. Once you have done this clear off the other faults and re scan. Then start tackling them.

Will have to find somewhere warm to work whe cleaning the turbo.
