Over optimistic trip computer?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've just fuelled my car and according to fuelly, I've achieved 46.8mpg. However the car trip was saying 50.5 since refuel as I pulled up into the forecourt.

Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy/over optimism?

Ta

Andy

It’s nothing new, many VAG cars read up to 10% optimistic, it should be possible to calibrate it with VCDS if you are really bothered about it.

On my Tig it's totally brim to brim accurate but options are available as Gizmo suggests.

Mine is accurate to within 1% (over optimistic) which is better than any of the previous 3 cars (all VAG), the worst was about 5%. But 10% is a bit much! I would check a few more tanks. Fill to fill figures can have inaccuracies too if the fill is not truely brim to brim. Diesel tends to foam up and stops the pump at different levels.

I spend a couple of minutes getting it full to the brim and these are my results:

Computer    Actual    % Accuracy

61.7            60.2        2.43

61.0            60.0        1.68

60.2            60.2       -0.07

63.0            62.8        0.25

60.9            61.2       -0.49

61.5            61.7       -0.32

For all intents and purposes, that's spot on mate!

Mines usually within 1mpg or 2%, computer usually slightly optimistic.

Our Yeti usually reads in the low to mid fifties on the maxi but fill to fill average is 45mpg. Be interested to see how this will compare with the Octy III when she arrives in the very distant future (one week since ordering and it already seems a lifetime; only another 25 to go  :giggle:  )

Yep    My Audi averaged about 4% optimistic.

My Ford Focus CC will do around 510 miles on a full tank (52.9 litres), i.e 9.64 miles per litre.

The trip computer tells me I'm using 6.5 litres per 100km, i.e 9.62 miles per litre.

Pretty much spot on........but you'd never rely on them, you should know from real-world experience how many miles you can get from a tank.

My old octy would say 50mpg + on the trip but fuelly said 42mpg ish!

My new O3 seems pretty much spot on, but that's from one tank so far!

I found on the O2 that after I adjusted Maxidot it was spot on on long trips, but lots of shorter journeys made it optimistic.
