Alignment annoyance!

Featured Replies

I went to ATS to get their full geometry setup this afternoon, here's where the problem starts. They could not get one of the rear eccentric bolts loose on one side, on the ones they did get loose the bolt turned but not the washer!!

I've decided to renew all the arms inc bushes on the rear and get a full set of eccentric bolts. It's annoying as the cars a 2007 model and I wouldn't expected this amount of corrosion.

Mine is a 2008 & all the bolts were free when i had my alignment done, has your car done a lot of miles or lives near the coast?

Just had my alignment done. It took two days as they had major issues getting the bolts loose. It's 2008 and I live in Aberdeen and work 20 yards from the sea so this could explain why.

But a major improvement.

AFAIK the rear has never been geometry aligned, so the bolts have never shifted in 125k. To be expected I guess.

Does anyone have any pics of where the bolts are in question that need to be loosened for the realingnment? I am thing of getting my alingnment done but would like to WD40 the bolts a few days before i go? Is it the bolts on the trailing arm itself? (on the rear that is)

The garage that adjusted the rear alignment of my 2005 Octavia used a blow torch to free up a seized joint or two.

You might find Plus Gas better than WD40 which is really more of a lubricant than a penetrating oil.

But it certainly seems a good idea to apply something to soak in beforehand.

They put plenty of penetrating spray on, one shifted but when the bolts that goes through the centre of the bush sticks to the bush centre, it's not shifting unless you break the bush.

Heat will melt the rubber bush so they wouldn't try that.

Had exactly same the same problem with my vrs,

Had to have a new arm costing £169 fitted

"A new arm" I couldn't have one done, I'd have to do the whole lot, must be an OCD thing.
