mk2 vrs silver with silver grill

Featured Replies

Anyone got a picture of a silver facelift with a colour coded grill?

I'd like to see this as well. Somehow I don't think it will work.

I don't think it would work either but interested to see the end result

That's not colour coded :)

Can't recall seeing a coded grille on a silver car either.....

Ah that's what I was after! Cheers for that.tempted do it to mine, think it looks not bad. What ya think?

Looks good to me and the new black Skoda badge would set it off too.

Has potential to look good but I think it would look better if the silver was 100% match with the body work. I'll be keeping mine chrome.

Sarge.

I have just plasti dipped mine matt black and I think it looks the biz

Plastis Dip Matt Back MK2 FL Grill

Here you go. I have had to make it small because I am not a freedom member - yet.

The company I got the stuff off of is in the UK. Customer service is very poor, as is delivery time. However stuff is really good and email contact very quick. Prices are reasonable and there are colour choices which may suit silver cars.

Also on a better note if after a while you don't like it just simply peel it off.

Have a look at WWW dot CARDIPUK dot COM  (Ps as you can tell from the above I have no affiliation with them what so ever)

Note

I have sprayed quite a few cars when I worked in the motor trade, this stuff is very easy to use and even an ameteur could apply it and get professional looks. My quick how to

1. Remove large torqx screw near grill badge.

2. Remove 5 x small torqx srews at bottom of grill

3. Using a hammer give the pegs (holding grill to car) a sharp tap (don't worry mine did not break)

4. Separate grill surround from grill inner using screw driver ( I used bits of cable tie to hold tangs apart whilst I separated the two pieces)

5. Clean chrome grill surround thoroughly (ensure all dirt from all surfaces is cleaned off)

6. Mount on some paper in a well ventilated space ( Don't do it in the kitchen like I did - everything was covered when I had finished and the missus went bonkers. Took me longer to clean kitchen than it did to pain the grill)

7. Apply coats of plasti dip as described on web site.

8. Allow to dry.

9. Re assemble in reverse order.

10. Refit grill

11. Stand back and admire work.

Time to remove grill from car - 5 mins

Total actual work time around 1 - 2 hours

Total time taken around 6 hours (Time between coats etc)
