Superb DSG question

Featured Replies

I'm currently deciding about which new car to buy and another Superb is seriously in the running (I'm on my second at present). I'm considering the DSG gearbox with the 170 Tdi which gets good reviews. My question is, does the DSG equipped car come with tiptronic paddles (i.e. on the 4 spoke steering wheel which is standard) or is the £300 upgrade which gets the 3 spoke wheel the only way to get the paddles. The brochure isn't clear on this part. Thanks.

To get paddles you'll have to buy the 3-spoke wheel. Sorry but 'tis true, well worth it though, IMHO.

Pages 10 & 22 in the July '13 brochure cover your question quite well.

Okay thanks. The reason I wasn't sure was that the info page on the Skoda website says 'Automatic 6-speed DSG with Tiptronic manual gear changing' however this presumably refers to the manual overide function using the gear lever, rather than the paddles.

I have had the DSG box in two different combinations, once with paddles and no hill hold and now without paddles, but with hill hold.

Both in my opinion are worth considering.

The paddles because of the ease at which you can flick up and down the gearbox, but as the paddles are attached to the wheel and not statically mounted as you turn the wheel on sharp turns you can lose position. I wish I could find a spare weekend to get the paddles retro-fitted to mine.

The hill hold is essential in my mind if you live or drive in hilly areas. DSG is not a conventional auto where the auto box holds you on an incline so you roll back as soon as your foot leaves the brake, There will now be comments about left foot braking but I prefer a consistent approach to driving where my actions are the same regardless of circumstance. The car may now very well have it as standard but well worth considering in my opinion.

I have lived without either option and managed but the two together would make it that little bit better.

That might explain why my dsg v6 has no hill hold. Can you activated via vagcom?

If I remember correctly it was a £115 option when I ordered mine, but you really need to read the brochure or talk to sales folk when ordering because on some cars it's standard with DSG, some not and some in conjunction with tyre pressure monitoring.

Ahh the brochures are not very clear, they don't sell the cars very well to be honest. I also bought mine pre loved so I wasn't sure what was standard for a late 2010 superb.

Tpm is equipped in mine, and i just read a advert in autocar this week page 32, that hill hold is standard on all dsg Super B's now.

Thanks Ddyer79.

I had to spec hill hold on my new car (pick up in Jan) Combi 170 Cr 4x4 DSG, and it is cost £115 in the invoice

My mums Roomster tsi dsg has hill hold, its brilliant.

I wish I would be reading this before ordering my Superb :-)

Having never driver automatic gearboxes longer than for half an hour I have assumed, that the car is not rolling backwards with any auto-box. From other hand - I have no problem with moving uphill with clutch, so I guess I will manage with DSG also.

I didn't add hill hold when I bought mine, but I don't find it a problem with letting off the hand brake as the car starts to move forward.  Especially as we are living in the Brecon Beacons area of Wales!

I'm sure though, like most things in life, once you've had hill hold you wouldn't want to be without it.

Ahh the brochures are not very clear...........

That's an understatement if ever I've heard one!   When I bought my car the brochure said it was standard on the V6.....guess what? It wasn't! Skoda kindly gave me £555 to ease my annoyance. As an aside, the paddles are brilliant !

Having just purchased a DSG Skoda this thread has made me panic. Just read into it and my Superb does come with hill hold so I'm happy! ;)

I can just say that Hill Hold is great to have and it really do the job!

Drive safe!

^^^^^Great news! :)

£115 is steep. You can activate it yourself in VCDS. 5 minutes job and works as dream ;-)

Really?  I've looked through some of the VAG threads on this as I'd love to have hill hold on my 170 4x4 Elegance.  I had it on a Mini Clubman Cooper S and found it very useful.  I'm planning on using the 4x4 in the snowy alps quite often (hence have manual rather than DSG, but that's another story) and hill hold would be good.  It holds all four wheels locked, whereas a handbrake only holds the rears - potentially significant on slippery slopes.

Can you let us know the details please?  Which menu options etc.?

Michael

Michael,

Do you have VCDS? If not try to find somebody in your area and perform the below coding:

HHC

- STG 03 , coding 07 , long coding , byte 16 , bit 0 to ON:

The end of code should look like below

35xxxx - HHC on

34xxxx - HHC off

Sly, I don't have VCDS myself but would certainly look to find a member nearby to get this enabled. Is the only hardware that needs to be present the tyre pressure monitoring system? You've done this yourself I assume?

Thanks very much - your input is very valuable! I'm missing hill hold having had it before.

Hi Michael,

It works with ABS and ESP on board. You dont have to have TPMS...

I haven't s3en a problem activating the HHC on a few cars. Very useful feature. Let me know if you have done it.
