  • All sorted. Full details later.

  • It seems that front assist has been dropped as standard spec because of delays on getting the parts - that's all as we know. What they did say is that they have found from the internal Skoda message b

Just over 6% discount, 0% APR, free servicing and an above book trade in value on the Bravo was enough to tempt me.

Very nice

Nice one Doc, thought you were never going to do it, but glad you took the plunge, roll on March....

It was far from certain that I'd end up in another Skoda. The one's I'd looked at originally definitely weren't as attractive, but having sat in one recently with the glass roof and lighter interior it really did feel like a different car.

The deal I got today was better than anything I think I'd have got elsewhere - either a different Skoda dealership or at another brand - so I just thought why not....

As an aside, I've been very satisfied with my Bravo which will be nearly 5 years old when it goes and that's partly why it's taken me so long to pick something to replace it. It's comfy, nippy enough, has a decent spec and has been cheap to run. It'll have depreciated by just over £9k since new, has averaged 53mpg, costs £30 to tax and hasn't needed any out of warranty repairs.

Well, less than a week into the wait and we've hit a problem....

It seems that Skoda have removed Front Assist from the spec completely, which I wasn't aware of at the time. The October brochure mentions it in the section on Safety Features but not on the detailed spec list.

I've just spoken to both Skoda CS and my local dealer.
Skoda say that all dealers were notified a month ago that Front Assist is gone and there's no date for it's return - my car won't get it at all and that all customers affected by this should have been notified, which I wasn't.

The business manager at the dealer said that this was news to them. He was under the impression that it had been dropped as an option along with adaptive cruise but it should still come as standard on the Elegance.
He also confirmed that they don't have any October brochures - just the August ones which they gave me and are what I used to make my decision.

I've asked him to go away and get a definitive answer if there's any way my car will have it, and if not to let me know what they propose to do.

This is a £300 item that my car won't have, so I don't see why I should be expected to pay the same price, but more importantly it's something that I really wanted on my car so I'm not sure if I'd want to go ahead without it or not.

Adaptive cruise control and front assist is/was the one thing on the new platform that I'd really want too if buying that car.

Disappointing that the dealers don't claim to know as they all should.

I guess you could try to buy one again when they sort any issues and it's back on the menu?

That's a very nice deal, you wouldn't like to reveal the name/location of the dealership would you?

I'm looking to order soon and that would be a significant saving.

Indeed it is disappointing.

I've been looking at cars for most of the year now and was more than a little relieved to have made a decision and ordered something that was exactly as I wanted it.

Cancelling the order and waiting may be an option, but there's no guarantee that I'll get the same deal that I did now, plus buying for a 14 plate meant I changed my car before the Bravo needed a cambelt change, service and MOT. If I don't get the same discount and good trade in (plus the finance offer may change) it could end up costing me a four figure sum.

My dealer knew at the start of October, so no excuses really.

I've spoken to a couple of different dealers recently, but nobody has mentioned that it's been dropped.

I'd expect the dealer to charge more for the front assist - it sounds like a horrid feature, braking when it sees a crisp packet!

They're unlikely to discount the RRP from the asking price, especially as already given <6% discount.  It might be worth a moan and asking for some other freebies (matts, tank of petrol etc.).

That said, if you're not quite right in the head and you had your heart set on that particular feature, I'd cancel the order, providing no money was lost.  It's silly to spend the money Skoda are asking unless the car they deliver is perfect for you.

In the future, when the baddies are being chased by the cops, they can just throw jet fighter chaff in their wake and stop the cop's cars on the spot! :P

@DrZoidberg, sorry to hear about your troubles. I'd hate to be in your situation. I'd look to cancel and find something else (maybe a G7 Variant).

Big chains who just want the order, or old school small family owned Skoda dealers?

All down to product knowledge and interest in the brand.

It was fairly common knowledge on here that these options had been removed from the configurator and were also no longer part of standard spec due to supply issues with parts.

Both types.

I'd seen it mentioned that it wasn't an available option any more, but didn't realise that it was taken off standard spec.

Most won't remember a time when you didn't run a Fiat :)

Glad you're sorted, the Front Assist issue sounds less than ideal. Sounds like another SUK option issue to me....

True enough. I was here from 2003 to 2006 with a Mk1 Octavia Elegance, then 2006 to 2009 with a Mk2 Elegance but the last four and half years I've been cluttering up the place with a Fiat badge.

Glad you've finally got it sorted Dr Z - won't be the same without a car thread from you

Perhaps the school of thought amongst some was, like you, it had been dropped as an option but was still standard. Pretty disappointing if that wasn't made clear to the retailers, and if it was, then I suspect they'll plead ignorance and were only interested in the getting the signature on the dotted line.

Difficult decision to be in - like BossFox says they are 2 pretty new and innovative features in a mainstream model and (without being too harsh) taking them out of the equation reverts the Octavia 3 back into a "run of the mill" model.

I don't know what to suggest for the best - the dealer will at least need to compensate if you stick with the order - is there anything of equal value or close which you could take?

PS: Are you no longer in Green??

I don't really give a monkeys whether my VRS comes with Front Assist or not. I prefer to decide when my car applies the anchors.
