Whilst driving along a minor road an alarm sounded from the dash board. (simular to seatbelt warning alarm) Being curious and concerned I took a look at the dash for any fault lights - nothing, no lights on, just the alarm still sounding.

When I pulled over (engine still running) I noticed that the alarm immediatley stopped. When I pulled away it was back again.

The main dealer wasn't sure what this would be. The car is booked in this week with another main dealer - hope they have some sucess.

It may not be related but the handbrake lamp is intermittent also.

Any other members experienced this?

Handbrake on slightly

Hand brake seems ok. car not sluggish in its performance. Brake light appears to be intermittent while hand brake is FULLY on.

This is the second time the lamp has gone intermittent. The dealer has previously changed the switch with a new one - everthing okay for a few months. The problem re-occured 3 weeks ago - before the alarm problem.

Will an alarm be activated if the handbrake is very sklightly on whilst moving off?

Any way that I could check this?

so long as the handbrake isn't in the fully off position an alarm will sound over 10mph.

I have noticed that the alarm sounds around 10MPH. The only thing that makes no sense is that the alarm sometimes disapears while driving. Could this be a result of the handbreak switch moving within its position?

However I will double check the handbreak

I'm not sure. All I know is that if yopu leave the handbrake up one click the alarm goes off above 10mph. I found this out when I had a squeel from my rear brakes. One click of the handbrake sorted it but then got the alarm sounding.

Things are making sense. A short while before all this statred I took the centre console out to get at the Handbrake switch. Maybe whilst putting this back I didn't put it fully home?

As I cannot tell if the handbreak is on (no light) maybe the switch has moved.

Will have a look tonight.

Took the Handbrake switch out, refitted and all OK NO ALARMS.

The intermittent handbrake light is still there but the dealer can sort this out again.

Took car into SKODA dealer who diagnosed a short on the instrument/dash panel.

Garage replaced panel (after having problems getting the system to hold the info) All OK

Customer service was very good
