2006 Fabia vRS - Water Tep Light flashing

Featured Replies

Obviously loosing coolant low but WHY???

I find that I have had to top up the coolant approximately once a month for the last 2 months/2,000 miles.

I am not driving it hard but the coolant level is dropping for some reason...no mayo in the oil cap...

...any known issues here??!!

There is a common electrical problem with the header tank, quickly resolved by replacing out for a new one circa £13 or so.

I had mine on/off like that, due to corrosion on the electric contacts which is impossible to repair. Easily fixed though and you can even google the clear guide on replacing it.

Although it might be more than that by sounds of it, maybe to do with the HG ? Dunno as I've never had that water dropping issue myself its always been straight as an arrow my car.

Yes, it has been well below "MIN" when checked - taken around 750ml to top up back to MAX...

...after a quick chat with the Skoda Master Tech that I used to work with, he advised me the water pump is likely to be the cause and probably is the place to start.

Given that the car is due for a new cam belt in around 10k (5 or 6 months for me), I think I will just monitor it and top up until it's time to replace - they say to do the 2 together anyway...

If it was the pump, are they saying its actually leaking ?

I would have thought that would be the only way the pump lost water, but I'm happy to be corrected ! Have you looked under the car when its dry to see if it slowly loses any by dripping etc?

Another thing, its gonna be getting colder so you want to make sure despite having to top it up constantly that you don't dilute the coolant too much or you will be in much more serious bother !

Will have a look when I can!

Coolant radiator may have a small leak but not visible. My car did the above for about a year until I changed the rad due to it developing a bad leak one day. Solved my problem after changing it. Skoda also told me water pump would be leaking when I went during the problem year to buy expansion tank cap to cross off reasons for loosing coolant.

Maybe I was lucky but a £75 oem radiator fixed it, not head gasket, head lift e.t.c

had to replace the radiator on mine.

Mine was fine for about about 6 months, then started losing about half a pint per month. Finally dumped all its coolant all over the driveway.

Was showing a leak from the bottom nearside corner of the radiator.
