I have been quoted £1600 to re spray my fabia vrs and refurb the alloys, i have seen their work and it looks flawless... just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the cost? some people say they can get it done for £300.... some say £1500+ for good job

if it helps, I was quoted £160 recently just for a rear bumper.

The saying "you get what you pay for" is useful when looking for a respray

IIWY, I'd ask around a few places and get quotes to compare, the more info you can gather the better. As mentioned, you get what you pay for, but don't get ripped off either.

BTW, loved Face/ Off

1600 notes is quite a good price for a full respray and wheel refurb..

I have been to a couple of body shops and they all seem up for doing a quote until i mention i want the wheels done as well, they then ask if i have a spare set of wheels to put on the car so they can move it about

Does everyone keep a second set of wheels??

I will try and get a few quotes

wouldn't a decent spray place have a dolly for workshop maneuveres?

get yourself up the scrapyard and purchase some full size steel spare wheels from octavia/golfs for a tenner each.. simples

That sounds like a good price for a car of the size, we've got a classic VW camper and when we had that restored, the spray job alone was £2500.

Hadnt thought of that!

They may even come with barely legal tyres!

I would have thought the body shop would have been able to move it about

yes they can use dollies but it makes it awkward to move a vehicle around easily, far nicer to drive the thing instead.

Will i need any steelies in particular?

If anyone can get the wrong ones its me

any wheels will do tbh, just be aware that overspray travels everywhere, so dont give em your best wheels

Looking on ebay as i type this....

You need wheels on the car for them to sit in the dollys. You can get a large dolly for the body's only but can't be used if the shell is fitted with parts.

If it helps it's just cost me 195 quid for bits alone to paint my wings, bonnet, bumper and tailgate. That's without time spent on it or runnin costs of the garage

I will probably get it booked in tommorrow, just cant decide what colour to do my SE alloys

I'd be really grateful if you could let me know how it goes. I'm not far away from getting my car resprayed just need to find a decent place.

*ahem :)

Sounds like a good price considering the quotes I had locally for work on the Rallye.  I've had bits done and to be honest £1600 inc wheels wouldn't have covered my little car.  My mate had his ITR done over the summer and paid more than double that.

It was a glass out, back to metal respray in most places job and it looks better than amazing.  The bloke that did it is an ex BMW bodyshop mastertech and is a perfectionist.  I reckon he's got OCD or something but as you can see the results are very good.  We've got another place in Scarborough that restores classic cars and their resprays are anywhere from £5k upwards.

Whoever had my car before me had some work done and I'm having to have it redone.  There are micro bubbles all over the roof & most of the panels.  It looks okay from five feet away but it annoys me each time I wash the car.  The difference between the work I've had done and the previous work is like night and day in quality.  The ITR is flawless wherever you look so as was mentioned, you get what you pay for.

You'll have to post up the results when it's done.

Was £300 for a rear bumper spray the other week. Not me that was paying though :whew:

Wow, £1600? That's mega cheap if its a full one!

Went down to the body shop for a guided tour, estimator met me with a cup of coffee at the door and showed me round the place.

He then went over my car with a fine tooth comb and we came to a deal of £1600 to respray the car and refurb the alloys, car is now booked in for the 11th November.

Also looking into Unit 18 sorting out a few bits for me so i will probably start a project thread ;)

GM bodycraft or?
