Picked up new monte carlo - broke down!

Featured Replies

Ok so I'm very excited about picking up my first ever new car a Fabia tsi monte carlo tech estate Red,

I made it about 10 miles and it started to run rough and missfire, engine light came on briefly and then the EPC and traction control light came on and stayed on. I turned it off and then started it again (turned over a few times before it started)

I took it straight back to the dealer who gave me there test car while it gets sorted.

Has anyone else had this? It had half a tank of fuel when I picked it up, is it possible they put Diesel in?

Update. They didnt put Diesel in

Still dont know what the problem is  :wall:

Oh dear. Not a good start!

I would demand them to check everything over before you drive off. A new car playing up isn't a good sign and some people lose faith in it before they've had chance to love it.

I hope it isnt serious, I hate the thought of my new car being ripped to pieces before I've even driven it home, Other than the engine problem it drove lovely and was very excited (for 10 minutes). Still no news so I guess it will be tomorrow now  :wonder:

If it was me I'd refuse the car.

After 10 minutes of driving it is playing up, what will it be like after 100 hours? Or more?

I would blag an extended warranty.

+1

i would probably reject the car if it was me. 10 miles is an utter joke

Right, they recon it is a faulty injector and its running on three cylinders, the parts should be delivered tomorrow and in theory I get my car back.

With regard to rejecting it I could end up causing myself allot of hassle as I would have to wait for another one and also the finance is tied up with the car.

Is the injector a major job? Will they have to take the engine apart, if its a simple fix I am probably better off keeping it.

The dearler has been good about it and have given me a monte carlo the same with higher spec to run around in but should I be worried about it being a Friday afternoon car which will constantly have issues.

Thanks for your Replies

injector's shouldn't be a major job as far as I know, they're normally external to the engine and can be got at easily.  I think the rest is really your call.  I would be interested to see why the dealer thinks the injector failed so early on...

You were lucky to get 10 miles!

Drove my new Fabia less than a mile home & when tried to start it following day - nothing!

This happened about 4 more times & then in garage for 3 weeks.

Eventually traced to a thermo switch that er switched on in middle of night.

Fixed, and after 3 months problems it hasn't missed a beat.

Best of luck with it.

I've got my new car back, the injector was at fault apparently injecting fuel on every stroke and flooding the engine, they also changed the oil and filter as it may be contaminated with fuel? All fixed and it drives lovely. I'll post some pics when I get some time and its light outside.

glad you got it sorted.. keep an eye on it though
