Bob's Skoda Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Well most of you may know I've owned a few corsas now. However I moved on earlier this year and bought an mx5. Great little motor but not my cup of tea. So swapped it with some cash for my latest car

2002 skoda octavia vrs. Apperently been remapped and running 210bhp, although no proof so Im going with its running standard @180bhp.

Only mod is forge dump valve

I dont have mega plans for this car but who know what the future holds. Main thing is getting it tidied up.

Clutch was slipping, interior tatty and seemed to be involved in a light frontender. Exhaust is loose and the front grill is nasty. Original audio had been replaced with shoddy CD player and cd changer ripped out!

So pics as when I got it. . .

1st thing was to get the clutch sorted. I couldnt get full boost cos clutch slipping so couldnt really predict the power. Got a SMF conversion kit costing less than £150

Posted Image

Clutch now feels much better and lighter. boost holds well and it copes very well.

Next was to sort the audio. I sourced a standard tape deck and cd changer. Although the wires had been messed with so had to sort that also!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Also got a vRS front bumper, still in the process of prep but budget is tight so may have to paint with matt black I have left over from the mx5.

Had replace NSF hesdlight due to level adjustment being broken, maybe from the front end damage?

After waiting nearly 2 months for the log book I decided to send the green slip off to DVLA. Receieved the log book this week end and it holds bad news! The car was a cat C in October 2012! So now all the pieces fit together! I had been repaired on the cheap with non vrs parts. So more issues I may uncover when I try and fit the vrs bumper!

Replaced nsf ball joint as it was about hanging out! Still got osf to do although not as bad, wiper smear really bad, still the exhaust to do and may treat it to a valet after mot which is due next month along with tax so that'll cost a bit!

Sorry I havent a alot of images at this stage but I will get some uploaded soon and keep you all in the loop

Quick update

Still having same bumper issue as above where its not fittng correctly on the wings. Ive purchased a bumper bracket off benjen which will hopefully line bumper to the wing nicely. Also got some front inner arches off benjen as mine are in bits!

Been having a few problems with diverter valves, got a ebay special but the supplier cant tell me the psi rating of any of the 3 springs supplied so will be trial and error starting with the weakest. This is only temperary until i can afford forge 007p.

Got myself a standard grill, painted matt black same as bumper for now and added my own touch with the badges

Posted Image

Posted Image

Including the boot

Posted Image

The badges are gel domed and seller assure me they are weather proof. Only £9 the pair from brochsignsandprint off ebay. He doesnt list them but if interested drop him message they are 80mm.

This little baby arrived today

Also got 3" diameter cold air feed which still need to be fitted.

Mot'd last week and passed, having had to replace front link arms and replacing both sleeves on the exhaust.

Advised on 3 tyres and nsr brake slightly binding which i already knew about.

Oil service yesterday costing only £50 for flush, and change using castrol 5w30 fully synthetic oil.

Next on list is to sort front bumper alignment, full valet, clean throttle body and replace thermostat.

Will keep updated

glad you changed the grill back to normal, halfords do black magic paint cheap, 2 cans would do the bumper

I think the red spring is 8-15psi, yellow is 15-22psi and blue is 22psi +

yellow then green

Update,

Ditched the ebay recirc valve and returned to the standard. Due to its poor quality I was able to get a full refund.

Fitted the 3" cold air feed.

Replaced the gear leaver bearing today as the leaver was sloppy and OMG! What a difference.

Just need to adjust the gear cables to make it a complete job but the transformation is great. Slips into reverse with ease now where as before it would take 2 or 3 attempts which is anoying when you have parking sensors!

Very simple ro fit and only cost £2.74 direct from skoda

Posted Image

Simply undo the 2 screws holding it in place, pull the leaver up the bearing will lift, grab 1 side with some pliers and pull. The bearing will easily pop out.

On the new bearing it has a fatter rubber side, this goes to the front of the car, grease before fitting, then simply get it in place around the leaver, pop the ball of the leaver into the cup of the bearing, and fit 1 side 1st then use a flat blade screwdriver to ease the other side in. Refit the plate and jobs a gooden!

Another update

No pics at the mo but will update this post tomorrow with pics

First off, cv joint! Starting clicking only a week ago and got worse by the day. Was worried to drive it the past fee days as sounded like it was going to break altogether!

Got a new aftermarket cv joint kit for just £17 and fitted today. Pig of a job on the drive but now sorted.

Been having other issues with excessive knocking from the front. Thought it was arb bushes but turns out some the link arms i fitted a few months back where catching on the intercooler hardpipe, glad I sorted that in time!

Still need to fit nsf top strut mount, was gonna do that today but could get the top nut off as seem a special tool may be needed. Usually on other cars, its simply a spanner and ratchet but the cup is too deep so cant get a spanner on the nut!

Fitted new thermostat, wasnt as bad as i thought. Bit of a pig being behind the alternator bit nothing a 10mm socket and 1/4 rachet could solve with a little extention. All sealed nicely and now temp sits at 90 degress again.

And finally, done the n249 and n112 delete. Had a new oil dipstick tube ready as the old was already broke and strughle to get the bit out at bottom as so brittle! Will explain more on this tomorrow when I upload pics.

Update

As from above you'll know I did the N249 and N112 delete. However since then I now get error code for the SAI saying "incorrect air flow" so I will be refitting the N112 when I simplify the breather system and fit the oil catch can. Only hoping this will work as Ive noticed the air pump is now sounding a bit like an hoover!

Finally got round to replacing the rear caliper seals, no photo's as it was a pain in the backside and I was getting very frustrated with it! But all done now and my handbrake works again.

Still no joy with getting the 6 disc changer working correctly so decided to change back to cd/mp3 player. Had an old sony xplode laying around so bobbed that in.

Replaced the spark plus for NGK BKR7E as advised on here, car idle's and cruises fine but seems to have a slight power loss and I've managed to stall it twice at pull off! Will see what happens over the next week.

Now for the fun part, replaced the headlight bulbs for Osram night breaker unlimited, side light bulbs for phillips ultra blue (which are actually 4000k white) and front fogs for 4000k h3's.

Off side all done comparring with nearside

20140329_141201.jpg

20140329_141215.jpg

Massive improvement for less than £25

Also fitted some heko wind deflectors :)

And this is what I have in mind

2014-03-25%2016.03.52.png

Dont have any propper photo editing software so 10mins on Microsoft paint and pic from my monitor lol

Lowered an additional 20mm dark anthrecite wheels with st orange rim and eventually tints

Gave it it a good clean in and out today, didnt quite finish waxing as it was getting dark, will upload some clean pics tomorrow

Hmmmmm i liking the orange lip :)

Yeah, still keeping the green calipers so going with the green and irange theme.

Well, regapped the pligs this morning to 0.32 and theres an instant difference. I havent gave it full beans yet but steady driving it much more responsive. Cheers

Little update,

Finally got round to doing the breather simplyfication today, getting rid of the old split pipes and pcv.

20140407_154015.jpg

20140407_154010.jpg

20140407_154553.jpg

The breather is only 12mm so decided to keep the hocky puck. Not the neatest job but its practical and will do for now.

Trying to repair the broken vac pipe on the N112 valve so I can reconnect that to stop the sai error code.

Got round to applying the gun smoke headlight tint. Would have liked a blacker look but looks better than flyeye close up

Update

Been away to south wales, the octy was due for road tax end of may but decided to take it off the road for june whilst on holiday and now got a couple weeks to carry out work before taxing again beginning of july.

Plans for this fortnight include. .

Refurb alloys, thinking anthrecite but still unsure on the shade.

Properly allign the front end, wings, light, bumper and bonnet.

Colour code the grill and front bumper, been matt black for too long!

Paint calipers, unsure but thinking orange?

Lower 35mm and fit new front top strut mounts as one is fooked!

Adjust exhaust as clamp has slipped and causing minor blow and tail pipe tilted!

Move oil catch tank to the front as im getting oil fumes in cockpit on idle from the breather filter!

And if got time

Sort audio as nsf and osr speakers not working.

Replace hazard swith as the relay part is packing up!

Full valet

Will keep the thread updated with progress. A few pics to follow with this weeks progress

So, few weeks ago decided yo have a play with the spare wheel for designs and ideas

This was a quick sketch as an idea. Fully paint in anthrecite then sand front of spokes and lip back to bare alloy, polish and laquer

20140430_205443.jpg

Cleaned, prepped and primered

20140430_183518.jpg

2 coats anthrecite

20140430_184503.jpg

Started to sand back a couple of the spokes to alloy to see what it looks like but think due to age and maybe methods used 12 years ago the alloy has a pitted look (not corroded) so the polished alloy look wouldnt have been any good. Maybe diamond cut would have worked well but dont have the funds for that!

20140502_164148.jpg

Had a whacky moment and came up with this. Doesnt look right and doesnt suite the car so think im just going with a deep metalic shade of anthrecite?
