smashed the sterio yesterday! the volum button has been a bit iffy the last few weeks where as its sticks on the vol up, yesterday was the final straw when it blasted out at 5am on way to work! 5 seconds of agression seen the sterio landing on the local golf course!

so today ive installed the replacement . . . much better and DAB ;)

well, finally the weather is bright and dry although still very cold. . .the time has come to do the oil pick up pipe

some you may have seen my other thread where ive been having problems with oil light keep coming on and im assuming its the common problem where the oil pickup become slightly blocked reducing oil pressure. ive not been driving it since this issue as dont want to dry out the top end or the turbo!

i will post up some progress pics later

wish me luck

Good luck!

I bottled out of doing mine and got my mate to do it on his ramp.....

Not too bad to do though, you just need to get the car up as high as possible

well what a day!

gathered my tools together ready to start and found an empty plastic 5ltr paint tin in garage so thought id use that for the old oil, but as its so cold the plastic was brittle so the lid broke and the screw driver took a direction into my left hand!

finally decided to use a bucket instead, so drained off the oil, put new oil filter on, removed oil return pipe from turbo and unpluged the sensor then the fun started with the 2 bolts that are next to gear box! i couldnt get my 1/4" hex set in so went on a hunt for a 5mm ball point hex key, spent 2 hours driving round in mums car before finally finding a set for £7.99 at wilkos. got back home just as it was getting dark and just 2°c only to find the new hex kit didnt fit properly, ive put it down to the solid mass flywheel as the angle for the bolt was too great! set about hacjing up an old 10mm socket and 1/4" drive extension. finally got them out. by this time it was dark and absolutly freezing.

so far ive got the sump off and oil pick up off and its just about blocked!

had a good look into the engine from underneath and all seems ok, no scoring on the bores etc.

if weather holds up will get it back together tomorrow but have just put the sump back on with a few bolts to keep moisture out over night

Sounds just like when I do car maintenance! Hope the hand's not too sore.

got the sump back on this morning, just need to wait 24hrs for sealant to dry properly.

started with cleaning out the sump as it had burnt on oil!

then when sump was dried, sealed up the edges and refitted.

tomorrow when i get back from work, Ill add the oil and hope all is well

Todays progress. . .

Calipers were in need of some paint. I was originally going to go with orange to keep with the theme, but managed to find some green paint that is a near perfect match. . .and only cost 5.99

Removed the pads to ensure I didnt get and paint on them.

Started off cleaning them up with a wire brush, also good for adding a 'key' for paint. Then gave a good wipe down with 'panel wipe'.

20140624_150403.jpg

Once the panel wipe had dried, I then went around and applied 1 coat to all calipers.

20140624_155726.jpg

Then by the time I had done the 4th caliper, the 1st was dry enough for a second coat and so on.

This is after 2 coats and still a bit wet

20140624_155738.jpg

Soon after began to rain but lucky enough the paint is quite thick so the rain had no impact on the finish.

Once the rain had passed, went on to put the headlights back in.

They allign up much better with the bumper now and thw indocators no longer have a great gap between them and the wings.

20140624_171337.jpg

The grey and orange wheel I did previous was going to be kept as the spare, but having cleaned up the other 4 wheels, Ive found one to be quite corroded. So ive decided to use that as a spare and repaint the grey and orange wheel. Got the tyre swapped over this afternoon so can start on the wheels tomorrow
