Kenwood DNX521DAB

The voice activation would come from the headunit, rather than the car itself, so sadly the answer is no.

Incidentally, my Kenwood is being replaced under warranty this week. It's working flawlessly other than the passenger side climate temperature not showing properly. The magic black box didn't fix it, so Kenwood have suggested an entirely new unit! Seems a bit OTT, but it's all under warranty so new unit it is! :)

Where do these 'black boxes' come from? Do you get them now if you purchase brand new ones? Do Kenwood charge extra for them? If I buy a used one off eBay I guess it won't come with one- what options will I then have to get hold of this widget?

Mine came from Kenwood direct as part of a 'warranty' claim, organised by the Skoda dealer.

To be honest, unless you're a complete perfectionist, it's the tiniest of problems it's hardly worth worrying about.

RobM glad to hear that you got your sorted. Please could you post which dealer and agent you spoke to so that I can get my dealer to contact them direct as the dealer said to me today they did not have a clue what I was talking about but they would take a look next time I am in (Going in soon anyway). I just want to give them a steer so they can sort it when I go in.

Many thanks

+1 here too.

Be interesting to find out the actual remedy as my dealers reckoned it was firmware upgrade, which I did and obviously it wasn't as mine is still wrong.

Interesting that they are now replacing complete unit. My dealer insists there is no black interface/magic box they say the only bit they could think of was built into the back of the main unit.

But with my unit being brand new in July 2012 you would think it had latest hardware?

As per my previous post on the first page, if your main dealer does not understand the problem / solution point them in the direction of Matt at Rainworth Skoda in Mansfield. He knows what the problem is and will know what part is needed.

My local Skoda dealer is Meadens in Sway (New Forest, Hampshire), but they're just directing all queries to Kenwood. I think lombardy's tip above is a more sensible bet, as it sounds like the Skoda technician understands the situation well himself.
