Another New Octy Vrs...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, just thought I'd say hi and tell you all that I've just ordered a new Octavia vRS.

Crazy thing is, I bought a brand new Honda Accord 2 months ago. One of those with the facy boots that go up and down with a click of a button.

It was a nice car, but even though it had 2.4 VTEC with 190bhp, it was slow, no speed until you wound it up a bit.

Test drove a vRS and that was it, I had to have one, fast, great value and I'll take 0% interest anyday!

Took one that was already built and sat in Grimsby waiting, in Silver, with no options, should have it in a week.

Brum brum.

Congrats Simon, and welcome to the nut-house we all know as Briskoda.net.

Fine choice of colour, i can gurantee many hours of fun & games with your purchase. :D

Welcome Simon - Get ready to use the grin muscles:D :D :D :drive1:

Hi and Welcome!

Good choice in colour.

I would suggest getting parking sensors retro fitted; they're well worth the investment.

My boss just got a Accord 2.4 SE; looks nice in black. Had a sit in one and is feels solid and the quality looks good. However the boot is small and the space is about the same as the Octy. A case of less is more but then that is generally true when comparing most cars with the Octy.

Enjoy the performance but be aware that you will get used to it then it's........Jabba time!:D

If you think the standard RS is good just imagine what a remapped one is like. Then you're on a slippery slope of modding................I blame Jon, Des, Paul, the Dave's etc. :D

All of it is proven (apart from NOS on a Octy) with thousands of road and track miles.

So enjoy......

Cheers.

Adrian.

Very surprised to hear that. I've always been hugely fond of VTECs - because of both sound and oomph.

I can't believe it was slow. I do believe that it feels "slower" compared to a turbo engine, which gives a bigger sensation of speed. IMHO, the VTEC is infinitely more refined, though. Really revving it is part of the deal - and the fun!

VTEC is a neat system, and the Honda Accord doesn't lack performance when you keep the revs up. However, the secret is in the torque curves for the two engines. The 1.8T pumps out heaps of torque at low revs, giving pretty much constant output all the way from 1700 to 4200rpm, which is the range that most people are comfortable using most of the time. In my experience (I have driven one quite a bit and own the other), the Octy really is the quicker car, and quite a lot quicker at that, in the ordinary cut and thrust of traffic. Refinement is more a personal thing, I guess. YMMV.

Well, it was quick, but only if you really worked those gears. I got the semi-auto and in kick-down it sometimes went all the way down to first to get the revs up.

It works much better as a manual, especially six-speed, if you're a fan of stirring the box...

As you say though, turbo gives it more perceived speed, and I'd prefer that!

All in all, the Octy is muvh better value, handles better, and for me a better package.

Congrats on the new motor.

After 4 weeks of owning one myself I still cant tear myself away from driving it. It is simply SO MUCH FUN.

Best car I've driven (forwards at least, Absolutely the worst car for going backwards in but who needs reverse?)

:mw:

SI

ive had a type r in the past and the octy is way quicker... i fully understand why you changed...

Ffelan are you kidding? Is this a case of feels quicker, or really is quicker? Before or only after remap? Not doubting you, just curious - thought the Type R was a real hairy beast ...

ffelan, is there anything you haven't driven???

:D

um 996 porsche

I test drove a Civic Type R, Focus ST170, Seat Leon Cupra, Mundane-o ST24, Golf GTI TDi 150 and Vectra SRi 150 before opting for the Octy, although the Mundane-o was possibly slightly faster it certainly didn't feel it. The Golf GTI TDi 150 did feel faster, possibly due to better torque at lower revs, but then it was an extra

Yes but Ffelan was talking about the Accord Type-R if I understood correctly ....

I had a Mondeo V6 - the Ghia X, not the ST24 and I would say my Octy is quicker now it's been remapped. Well in fact I know it is ;)

:(

I've never driven anything with more than 130BHP under the hood...

smiley-faces-35.gif

Most I've ever driven had 145bhp...didn't feel fast at all, but it was good for making time on the motorway...

Rob.

68hp till the vRS...

how does the type r compare hadling etc. wise?

How do you get the power onto the road in that thing?  Is the answer just "very gently", or does it have Racelogic or summat?

its like being a bomb disposal expert... very very gently....

Welcome to briskoda -- nice choice btw :D -- even if you did go for the WRONG COLOUR

But believe me -- once you get used to the power -- and you read the various threads on here -- you will wan't to visit Jabba -- the difference is amazing!!

Paul,

Assuming its the same MY93 in BRG I have seen at Brighton speed trials two years ago he couldnt quite get the power down. I would rather have a 500 with solid lifters, cam and a remap for track days and would do pretty well at standing 1/4s as well. But a Griff is a Griff.

Chris

it was built for "bst"... it seems to have been run on the worng tyres/ wheels so i can imagine the probs it had.. it lethal on road...:D

A std Griff 500 is quite quick enough on the road for me. BTW, I now have an ABD CAI on the vRS.

Hmm well, my car before the Honda was a 2002 Saab 9-3 Aero, in (flat) Black. I said then that I'd never have another Black car!! I've always had a thing about Silver anyway.

The power of the Saab was excellent, 205bhp, but the chassis didn't have a clue where to put it, unlike the new 9-3 which is very much more sorted.

But you're right, I do hope to get used to it so I can Jabba away!

Cheers all, I feel most welcomed now... just counting the days till it arrives...
