Rough Road Package

Featured Replies

Hi

I will pick up my O3 4x4 Tsi tomorrow. I have ordered it with RR package and 17" alloys. Does anyone know if the RR package has firmer or softer suspension, than standard? Or is it only higher (15mm)? My theory is that RR has firmer suspension and that`s why it is only delivered with 16" as standard. Anyone that knows?

No idea, but I'm trying to get this setup in the UK (RRP and 17" Denoms) would be great to see some pictures once you've got it and your thoughts on the combination!

Goes well not to get 17 "to RR package? In Sweden, the 16" only option.
I think the suspension of RR is a bit harder than the original suspension.

Likewise have a 4x4 on order with the RRP and I suspect the use of smaller rims has more to do with the deeper profile tyres they will come fitted with. A lot more practical for rough roads or gravel tracks than rims fitted with rubber bands which also leave the rims more prone to damage.

Found this to be the case with the Yeti; first one had 17" alloys and 50 profile tyres and they got scraped a couple of times on gravel tracks, however the 16" rims with 60 profile tyres on the current car have not suffered any damage while being used in the same way.

I'm too vain, 16" alloys look too small on a car with jacked-up suspension.

Our Octavia Scout has 17's but still has a high profile tyre. They are impossible to kerb due to the shape of the tyre protuding well clear of the rims or spokes.

Suspension is slightly harder, car is higher but difference in ground clearance is minimal (due to panels underneath). 17" alloys aren't usually available with RR (harder suspension, bigger alloys, less tyre = harsher ride). Covers in package are plastic in this generation.

I did not order the car with 17", but the dealer agreed to swap the 16" alloys with some 17" that was one one of the demo cars.

The reason for ordering RRP is to have a higher car in winter time. The winter alloys are 16"

I hope that the RRP has a firmer ride than standard. That would be perfect, since I want a car with firm supension and good ride height.

I high car is good when driving over speed bumps and when driving in the city. I had a 5 serie M-sport for a couple of years and I got tired of having a low car.

silver1011: The car will be deliverd on 16" winter tires, so I will not put on the 17" until next summer. So you have to wait for the pictures :-)

Here`s a link to one of the few 4x4 TSI rewievs. In Norwegian only : http://tb.no/kj%C3%B8r/en-octavia-utenom-det-vanlige-1.8070215

Thanks for the link,

interesting article and the first time I've seen the cloth leather seats option. Knew it was available in CZ but again another choice denied to UK customers :bandit:

Enjoy the new car and if you can please add some photo's, be interested to see an Octy on taller springs.

Yes. 225s are the maximum reccomended width for Proteus wheels so there's a nice bulge for protection.

BUT you can have it all. The 245/45s I ran on 18“ wheels had only 2mm less sidewall but rode 10mm higher giving the car a useful bit of winter clearance. It felt less fidgety and still had a nice protective bulge on the Zenith wheels. Yes - I know the vRS boys prefer the stretched look!

I just hope my insurers take the same sensible view if I fit the same wheels to a MkIII Scout. Going to measure the wheel arch aperture tomorrow for comparison between MkII and III.
