Roomster Engine failure - oil chain snapped

Featured Replies

A relative of mine bought an 57 plate TDI(80) Roomster with 30k on the clock - covered about 85k in 3 years so mileage was 115k - gearbox failed  (second gear fault) was replaced at a cost of £1000, a few weeks later the car backfired then stalled on the M6 with fault code 183 (fuel temperature sensor fault) it would not run and was trailered home to local garage - subsequent investigations have found that the oil chain had snapped (due to lack of lubrication) and  wrecked the engine - the only way of finding out if the chain is worn due to no oil reaching it is a pressure test, which is NOT part of Skodas servicing schedule. Please note that the dipstick always showed a full amount of oil in the sump..and the car was regularly serviced - the car has now been scrapped - are Skoda ware of this fault I wonder?

I had one break in May this year - see separate post.

Outcome was Skoda didnt want to know - they are obviously aware of the problem as there are quite a few people this has happened to.

My final bill came to just under £1,500 (at a specialist engine centre) of which Skoda offered not a bean!
