Snapped subframe bolt

Featured Replies

I have the replacement bolt, but I wondered if anyone else had ever seen this bolt break, and managed to drill out the old bolt OK, and just fit a new one.

The bolt in question is the one which goes in horizontally from the front, holding the swingarm onto the console from memory.....

The subframe will be dropped entirely to access it for drilling etc, but I am worried I might actually have to replace the console and/or the swingarm too.  :(

Was not amused when it snapped.... especially as my mechanic stopped turning it (to answer phone) and I kept it going so it was actually ME that snapped it LOL

These snap all the time, it goes Into the alloy housing so might be abit awkward to drill out.

I've always seen people just replace the console.

im sure you could drill it out .... although ive heard the bolts holding the subframe to the body are common for snapping too ...

That'll be annoying if I do.... Especially as I can't quote my reg plate when I order from TPS and the like - I have to find a fabia vRS on Ebay and use that reg! :D

The subframe was dropped not long ago (dodgy PAS rack), so I am confident they will not be an issue.  But the subframe itself hasn't been apart.

This happened to me :(

I managed to get a replacement console from a vRS being broken locally for £25. I think they are ~£110 new.

Not an option when the garage is in the sticks on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. :D

You can try drilling it carefully or the best option is spark erosion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjCytNO1lNU which should leave the alloy intact.

if you are stuck for a reg pm me mate..

Mine snapped on my old ibiza (same chassis) due to catching my lower strut brace 1 too many times :(.. i just took the console off + there was enuff bolt left to grip with the mole grips + take it out. Never buy a lower strut brace for the front. They are **** + catch on everything even when not running silly lows :(

Yup one of mine snapped when I was replacing my console bushes a few years back :( I just replaced the console.

Part number N10141801 m12x1.5x100 ( may have changed to a later number)

They are supposed to be one use only. However they quite often don't get replaced.
