Don't pull it out, almost broke mine doing that! Best way is to take the bumper off and push it off.

Apparently the new ones are a lil bit shorter than the original ones.

How do I get bumper off?

I had no troubles removing the bumper strip. I had the same issue as you. After a coat of clear gloss it now stays black (tried all sorts of back to black products).

Just start at one end with a screw driver and a piece of cloth to protect the paint. Once the end is up, the rest just 'peels' off.

No need to remove bumper that is overkill. Just use a small flat screw driver and a cloth. Start by placing cloth at one end of trim then place screw driver on cloth and between trim and lever the trim upwards and outwards. Once you have lifted one section you can then start twisting trim right and left parallel to bumper and lightly pulling outwards. Be patient and will be easy to remove.
