Will these alloys fit my Superb?

Featured Replies

I've found some 17" 'Proteus' alloy wheels from an Octavia Scout.

They are 17 x 7J ET50, usual stud pattern; 5 x 112.

If I fit 225/50 R17 winter tyres to them will they be OK on my Superb?

The current alloys on my Superb are 17" Triffids (SE spec) with 225/45 R17 tyres.

Will the higher aspect ratio (sidewall height?) amd higher offset cause me any issues (going from ET45 to ET50 and aspect ratio 45 to 50)?

Thanks!

Hi,

I had a spare set of Proteus wheels with winter tyres on, for fitting to my previous Octavia Scout.

I now use these on my Superb 4x4 and they have been great (no offset issues)

My Summer tyres are 225/40 18 and winter are 225/50 17, I did the calculations and these were under 2% different.

I would imagine you would be fine with the move from 45 to 50 ratio (I think it equates to about 1.5% increase), but you might want to do you own calc's to make sure.

Brill, I very much like your answer Tony, thanks!

I can get winter tyres to fill the Proteus alloys with a 45 ratio so they would be identical (apart from the offset) but would prefer 50 if possible for protection agianst potholes.

You're welcome.

FYI, I have Dunlop Wintersport D4's fitted and have found them superb (forgive the pun).  I don't drive like a loon, but a cover miles in all weathers and these have never even felt like they were getting close to losing grip.

I stupidly let these go on eBay, very annoyed. They went for £410 with brand new Goodyear summers on. Fool.

Anyhow, the search continues. These were looking promising until I noticed that they have an offset of 26.

I'm guessing since I am looking for ET45 / ET50 then ET26 will be no good, and cause insurance issues?
