COLUMBUS UNIT HELP

Featured Replies

Yeah it's a bit pricey which is why I'm holding off and doing a lot of searching etc.

It will also allow installation of premium Bluetooth apparently.

Here is a video of it emulating climate control on the Columbus:

And PDC to OPS emulation:

So how does this Polar FIS+ work is it something that plugs onto current CAN and adding the functionality. . Also is it something geared towards those who wish to retrofit and integrate maxidot with BT?

Wow that is quiet impressive.. even if slightly pricey.

Cheaper than fitting new OPS and Climatronic.

It basically plugs into the CAN gateway then the car plugs into it. So it piggybacks the can gateway signals.

It then shows up in the maxidot to configure it and also to show lots of other information (boost, coolant temp, oil temp etc).

It will allow a new (facelift) Bluetooth to integrate with pre-fl maxifot.

Adam ive updated to 4020 from rnsfirmware.com but to no avail. Still get a battery drain issue.. can also hear the units always powered up if sitting in the car.

Is there something im failing to do??

Also the firmware didnt give me 7 digit search.. actually it didnt give me postcode search at all.. although did give improved interface when streaming BT audio.. am I missing a step ??

After fw updates are done I reset by pressing 3 buttons at top.. once restarted I leave it at that.

Good find this, and I too am impressed. It seems it also handles front sensors too.

I'm not sure if the first video suggests you have to activate something first in the maxidot menu, which will be no issue as long as it is a permanent setting.  Would have saved me a whole load of work and grief of changing the OPS controller and wiring, although at least I still have the satisfaction of it being cheaper to do the latter!  And although I did also shell out for a new climatronic module back in the day, I personally think it looks nicer.

There is a cheaper unit if you just wish to integrate newer BT into pre FL maxidot (see http://www.carsystems.pl/fis-link-can-box-converter-for-red-dot-matrix-fis-and-new-bt-modules,id687.html)

@Phil

Yeah agreed it is impressive how it actually integrates with everything and is then able to emulate it all.

Im guessing maxidot is essential precursor for it to operate then. ?

Yes I think he was just demonstrating it not working then activating it in maxidot then it working. The settings are saved afaik.

When you changed to an OPS controller do you need to change the sensors too? Basically I'm not too fussed about climatronic display but would love OPS/PDC back even just to mute the stereo.

Yes maxidot is the requirement for it.

I managed to find a used maxidot on ebay for £50 then got Eddie-NL to code it up and correct the mileage etc for £60.

What map disk did you have?  It might be too old for postcode functionality with the newer firmware.

Are you sure you still have battery drain, as this has worked for many others.  Just because the unit does not power down immediately does not mean it will drain the battery - it can take a few minutes to power down.  Have you checked overnight?

Finally I presume you went for either the second or third link on that firmware page?

Fixed it now

No, just the controller, wiring and addition of a speaker.  See post 118 at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/261422-pdc-ops-advice/

The muting of the stereo option only appeared on my Columbus when I changed the controller.

Yeah definate battery drain currently got the standard headunit back in as sick of jumping car in the morning!!!

N yes it was the 3rd link

So that car sytems link adam for €12 would also alleviate battery drain aswell!! Cheaper than CAN gateway

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

It is 120 euro not 12, so probably not cheaper than a gateway, but easy to fit and gives other benefits re BT.  I'm still baffled why you are getting battery drain as I know a member with an 2005 Octavia where the battery drain was sorted by that firmware update.  There is a separate fix (which I thought was incorporate in the 3rd link, but maybe not) which can be found here: http://www.my-gti.com/3868/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-download-repository (see about two thirds of the way down the page).

I'd try that if I were you.

Cheers

Adam

I thought there was an additional download and firmware disc to run to avoid battery drain.

Yes the more I think about it that is the advice I gave before!! The link above is what you need.

Right sorry been away for a while but now back so time to rejuvenate this thread.... ive updated firmware... accessing secret set up menu confirms firmware

Sw version 4020 also updating part number from 'A' revision to

3T0035680B

HW H04

What am I doung wrong that the battery is still draining when this seems to resolve for so many others..

On secret menu theres a CAN reference which states reversing off.. is this any indication??

is it vcds coding possibly??

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

You'll need to run an extra firmware 'mod' to cure the battery drain.

I think it works on 4020 firmware.

The link adamal gave (4 posts above) shod contain the download you need. If not, look on VW Navi forum or GPS Underground.

Kb are u referring to the vuci 1200 file

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Yes I think it is called "vuci 1200" or similar (3.84mb).

Adam

Just thought I would also post this here.

If anyone is having problems on a pre-fl Maxidot and Columbus retrofit with the Maxidot getting stuck in the Audio and Navigation menu I found a fix for all the firmware versions here:

http://vwnavi.com/volkswagen-factory-fit-navigation-systems/rns-510-mfd3-navi-system/firmware/13672-unofficial-272x-software-swl-recovery-cd.html

I updated to the latest 5270 firmware then applied the fix and it worked perfectly!
