Hi guys, thought I 'd share my thoughts on my new Candy White Octy vRS Estate Tdi Manual. I have had the car since last Wednesday where I collected it from Horton Skoda, Lincoln. Horton Skoda were brilliant by the way, from start to finish and would use them again.

The car spec is as follows;

Winter Pack, Sunset glass, Black Pack, Colour maxi dot, double sided boot liner, cruise control, rear bumper top surface protector (black), spare wheel, anthracite Gemini alloys and red stitching interior.

Having covered about 600 miles now, my thoughts are as follows;

Interior/kit:

The interior is a step up from my former facelift hatchback 12-plate vrs - it looks and feels classier-more expensive, better quality. I love the seats, so supportive and comfortable (my wife loves the heated part!)The ambient white LED cabin lights are a nice touch and the quick-clear windscreen is very useful-especially now the frost has hit us! Auto-lights, wipers, Bluetooth and rear parking sensors are great and very useful to me. People have commented on the interior quality and amount of space.

The Character or the drive:

This car is a joy to drive. Again, it feels a step up from my previous octy in almost every way. The handling is great on all manner of roads-the suspension has a satisfying firmness to it without being too harsh and the steering is just right. I travel on my daily commute over countryside B-roads, A - roads and 3 motorways. This car feels great round tight bends, long straights and cruises beautifully on the motorway. Albeit, the engine still needs to loosen up a bit and I have been careful with the engine and gearbox. I am currently averaging (according to the long-term computer) 51-52 mpg. This is without driving the car hard but not tickling the accelerator either. I have set up the lane assist and at first I found it really odd but I have got used to it and now I like it. If a safety feature is there to use, I use it, simple.

Finally, I know this will divide people but I really like the 'engine/exhaust grunt' sound from the sound generator. I know it's not a true engine/exhaust characteristic but it's fun-at the end of the day I'm not going to get upset that it's fake. Commuting, I set the engine mode to 'Eco' but when at home and driving locally, I set it to 'sport'.

Exterior/Styling:

I love how this car looks. If you'd told me 12 months ago that I'd have a white estate car I would have probably laughed at you but far from it now. Yet again, I keep saying this but the look of this car is a step-up from the mk2 FL octy. The front end looks sharper and more aggressive and the lines of the car are nice with a sporty yet classier well-built look. I like the subtle rear diffuser- sporty without being tacky. The car feels more Audiesque. The black pack gives definition to the wing mirrors and grill surround against the predominantly white bodywork and makes the car look sportier and a bit more aggressive looking. I was never a fan of the chrome grill surround on my previous octy but just never got round to doing anything about it.The anthracite Gemini alloy wheels are really nice and complement the car, especially a white car and they also hide a bit of brake dust too! One final opinion on the bodywork. If anyone who is considering protecting the rear bumper top surface with anything then go for the genuine Skoda black plastic rear bumper protective moulding. It's a nice piece of protective kit- it looks nice and suits the look of the car and obviously protects the rear bumper top surface near the boot opening.

The above is purely my opinion and my own thoughts. I also know that it's early days for me on this car (my first ever brand new car) but it's a real joy to drive. I understand others will have their own thoughts but I felt I should share mine on this great car.

I haven't attached photos as they would not do the car justice at this time. My car is filthy and I'm about to detail it myself this weekend so when I've detailed it I'll post my pics.

Cheers, I considered the DSG but just couldn't do it. I have read a lot of people on here who have specced the DSG and they seem to really like it. I may go for it next time.

I placed my order around the 23/24th August. As I said, my dealership were brilliant andI'd use them again.

I picked up mine on Tuesday and agree with your write up. Excellent quality and it puts a smile on my face everytime I jump in.

 

I also like the sound generator. It just adds a little fun to the diesel grunt! This is a great engine.

 

Thanks for the tip about the bumper protector. I will get one of these sorted with the dealer.

 

For those who are waiting - it's worth the wait! Fantastic car.

I look forward to seeing pics of your new baby. I have a black VRS estate on its way and as it will be carrying dogs in the boot I was wary of them scratching the top of the bumper whilst jumping in and out. I will enquire with the dealer as this will be a huge asset for protecting the bumper and paintwork.

I'd like to see pictures of it dirty please!

 

It's how it's probably gonna look most of the time anyway, so would be interesting to see how badly the new body shape / colour picks up the dirt!

Sorry to keep you all waiting guys! Been working all week and ran out of time today whilst starting to detail my car. Found that my new pressure washer foam lance didn't fit very well so been wrangling with the supplier over it. I only managed to use pre-wash shampoo with a garden sprayer+ rinse (waste of time!), 2-bucket method gentle shampoo + rinse! all over towel dry plus bit of clay bar. Ran out of light and time so going to wash again tomorrow morn with dodo juice, gentle rinse, clay bar, GTechniq c2v3 sealant on bodywork, bouncer's wheel wax then GTechniq glass polish n sealant. Hopefully the weather will hold and I can get some photos taken!
