vibrating clutch pedal

Featured Replies

Hi

Octavia 1.6 tdi cr, 44000 miles.

Had the car 2 weeks and noticed that if you sit with your foot just resting on  the clutch pedal, you can feel a slight vibration/rumble through it, also a slight whirring noise can be heard when its cold. Im thinking that the thrust bearing could be the cause, when you fully depressed the pedal the vibration/rumble/noise goes away. Clutch feels fine no slipping, no judder and gear selection ok. Riding the clutch by the previous owner has probably caused it to be like this, I don't ride the clutch. How long do you think it will last? is there a reason I can use to get it fixed under warranty as ive got 6 weeks cover left.

That's called riding the clutch- don't do it unless you want premature wear.

I know its called riding the clutch!! that's why i never do it.

That is not what I was enquiring about.

I have a 1.9 tdi and have noticed the clutch vibrates slightly. I just assumed it was because it's a diesel.

The clutch should be smooth on the diesel as it is in the petrol. Vibration through the clutch pedal can relate to the DMF wearing out and I'd get it checked out.

Your warranty cover wear and tear?

My old octavia had a slight vibration through the clutch pedal if you placed your foot resting on it, it was also a diesel. I think all the diesels do it, its just the engine vibration being passed through the mechanical assembly to the pedal.

If the clutch is fine in operation then you have nothing to worry about since you never drive with the foot on the clutch anyway.

Hi all,

My first post and it's on a topic that seems to cause confusion and panic.

Having recently bought an Octavia with the vibrating clutch pedal syndrome I did some digging to ease my concerns re disintegrating DMFs etc.

Seems it can be caused by either a missing/faulty clutch hydraulic component or requirement for ECU software update and is not necessarily an indication of impending doom.

I hope you find the following link useful in shedding some light on the matter.
