Geometry setup

Featured Replies

I've just had a full geometry set up at ATS (been back twice) but the wheel sits to the right and the car pulls to the left. This is the result

To me its miles out but they insist it is within tolerance.

hi

I had my 59 reg Octavia, 4 wheel alignment done yesterday at a ford garage and they me gave me a print out of the initial and final adjustment (only needed adjusting a fraction of a mm). Looking at your figures, its miles out. Take it back and demand a full refund (quote trading standards/consumer rights) before you end up with scrubbed tyres or worse. Than go to main agents, you may pay more but you wont have a clown working on your car. Good luck

my results from yesterday. my car drives straight and true.

front camber -0.36

front toe 0.05

rear camber -1.14 to -1.19

rear toe 0.06

I don't know what the factory settings are but going by these numbers my car drives spot on hope this helps.

Yeah yours is more or less spot on with them figures.

That's shocking. With toe like that your tyres will be toast.

You want it set like it is above.

Ats must be a bunch of monkeys if they send cars out like that

It's a new 4 wheel alignment machine. I even got all new rear arms and eccentric bolts so they could be set up at the rear, Hey ho.

Look at one of my posts on this, I posted my settings which were done on behalf of SUK at an Audi dealership.

I found yours which looked fine when completed.

Looking on super trackers website videos they're saying as long as the readings are within the green it's within spec, this is far from the truth with mine.

Are the settings they have stored on the computer the correct ones for the VRs and represent the ones that were issued under the SUK bulletin?

Ha ha I personally wasn't worried by that, I was more worried about them getting it somewhere in the ball park. To say its within spec as it's in the green is a laugh. The numbers on grizzle's thread clearly state what they should be and mine are no where near.

I am no expert but I did watch Ed China doing this on Wheeler Dealers and he did mention that he only needed to be in the green zone.

Looking at the figures on my picture, to me it stands to reason if the rear left is pointing inwards and the front right is pointing inwards it's going to pull left, which it is.

Martin that is shocking. Take it somewhere where they know what they're doing. Tyres are going to be scrubbed to **** in no time with what you have there. Tolerance? Bo11ocks.

I think it's a case of not the machine but the operator at fault, I tried to tell him but he wouldn't have it.

I'll have to go to York, maybe JJB if they do geometry alignment, if not York Audi.

Did you explain to him before he made the adjustments tat you wanted it all spot on? It might well be in tolarance but most of us paid extra for the fact we can get it all exactly spot on. Here was mine from last month. http://flic.kr/p/gtzHaS

Yeah I did say but I carn't be too hard on em. They spent over an hour trying to free the rear eccentric bolts for the adjustment, then after I replaced the rear arms and bolts they did a basic alignment while I fitted my coil overs. Then 2 attempts at alignment all for £40.

Skoda set my geometry and it took them over 2 days. I refused to accept until it was perfect. No point spending hundreds of £££'s on tyres for some monkey to screw you geometry up and ruin tyres.

regarding Welsh kai boy

Ed China can be a rough sometimes, but he knows his stuff.

Update:

I took the car in to another alignment centre with a Hunter machine.

Here is the before, bare in mind this was a week after the above alignment.

They commented that it was only slightly out but I got them to make it perfect.

After:

Result are- virtually the same as the last alignment. The wheel sits to the right car pulls to the left but a little less than before.

your camber is still double that of the front right??? its no where near perfect!

  • Author

No it's not its about perfect on the rear. Front is well within spec and quite even, don't forget 60 minutes to 1 degree.

Rear camber specified range is supposed to be more than the front.

Have you had it on some scales ? Sounds to me like one / more of your shocks are gone.

Not sure what scales are.

I hope not they're only a couple of weeks old and less than 300 miles. Surely if it's aligned right it should run straight. No brakes are binding.

It's only a slight pull now, almost as if the steering wheel wants to return to the center and stay there..... But I'd be off the road if I let it.
