New car detailing headache

Featured Replies

Hi all, today I planned to fully detail my new vrs estate and now I'm going to have to wait. Whilst I love crisp sunny weather, I believe it is not the best for detailing a car in. I was planning on using my new snow foam lance, my dodo juice mild shampoo, my AutoGlym polish, c2v3 on the paintwork and G4 & G5 on the glass and my bouncer's looking sweet wheel wax. Of course most, if not all of these products can't be used in direct sunlight and the sun is beaming down-totally clear skies here in Manchester. Also, it's still only a few degrees above zero temps. Gutted!

I've just given ours a quick once over after a day on the road yesterday...

I'm sure they'd all be fine - it's not like its direct sunlight in California.

I think it's really due to the panel getting hot to touch and therefore the products will cure too quickly and be a pain in the backside to buff off.

If I waited for the sun to dip a bit up here I'd be detailing in the dark!

Direct sunlight on a cool/cold day is not the same as the middle of summer..... It'll be fine.

The sun is low in the sky now, so heat wont be a factor until March...ish

Main enemy is humidity

Just give it a wipe with a sponge, it'll be fine.

Don't worry, normal weather will be restored to the Manchester area soon....

Ha ha, yeah I did suspect that the OP was full of bull$h1t: "the sun is beaming down-totally clear skies here in Manchester".

Yeah right, like that ever happens.

Is it half-term or something?

vRSuper1 was absolutely spot on with the weather. It doesn't always rain up here...

The only time direct sun light is a problem is in the middle of summer.  When it was 30+ degrees in the middle of summer I had a bit of a nightmare with a Conti Flying Spur as the paint was roasting!  I resorted to working in the small windows of "ooh, it's quite warm, but no sun" around 7am to 9am, and from about 8.30pm to 10pm.

At this time of year, there should be no issues with overheating paint - Apart from if caused by improper machine polishing. :D

Why would I lie about the weather where I live? Bit of an odd thing to say that 'Ha ha, yeah I did suspect that the OP was full of bull$h1t:....'

Either I've taken what you said the wrong way or you're just being an ar*e.
