Dog bone mount

Featured Replies

Hey all, I've been trying to remove my sump as it needs replacing, but I've run into an issue:

There is a bolt between the gearbox and sump in the gap where the red arrow is pointing. I can't reach it with my socket (due to the bracket on the end of the dog bone (I believe) and I'm pretty certain I've sheared the hex hole in the head, so can't get it out with a hex key.

Basically, I'm wondering if it's ok to undo the bolts (in green) to remove the bracket from the bottom of the gearbox.  I really don't want a gearbox/derv lump landing on me.  Do I need to support the gearbox at all?  I've only got basic tools (no engine cranes/trolley jacks etc.)

Once I've done this (if I can) my sump replacement should be plain sailing, any help is much appreciated.

can you not borrow a trolley jack from some where? i know when i undid the dog bone with the engine un supported it all fell forward.

not sure if undoing that bracket will have a similar effect in which case a trolley jack would be helpfull

How far forward? I take it no damage was caused to anything else?

Looking at this http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/74250-changing-the-fabia-vrs-dogbone-mount/ I'm guessing it should be okay without supporting the engine with a jack? Is it easy to push the engine back into place to refit?

i just used the jack to straighten the engine while i put mount / bolts back in

Right then, I'm getting a lift to work tomorrow, when I get back I'll be under the car til it's done!

I changed mine and it hardly moved at all...

mine was done on a slight sloping driveway not sure if thats why mine moved so much ?

Mine is currently facing slightly downhill on the driveway.  I'm glad I bought an inspection lamp, because I'm gonna have to do this in the dark

Dog bone mount does not support any weight of eng/gearbox,so it can't drop!It stops the forward/backwards movement of eng.

It will swing forward slightly, changed my dog bone bush for a poly one last week and it was easy to re-align the engine by hand :)

Mines never moved, easy job.

As everyone has said it doesnt and shouldn't move. I re attached the mount with ease after putting a powerflex item in.

I'm about to change my dog mount too, but my question is are all the dog bone mounts for the mk1 Fabia's universal? I look on ebay and the 1.4 mpi (my car) mount looks the same as the 1.4 16v mount, but are rarer and more expensive.

Give TPS or Skoda a call and ask if the part number is the same for all models, tbh I would've thought a diesel one would be different to petrol but I could be wrong.

Hi, i think the actual bush carrier part is universal, it seems to be the metal bracket that bolts to the gear box that is unique to each car.

When i removed mine the engine / gearbox never moved.

I got mine from ebay, a German supplier, sent them an email with the reg they confirmed the part. Delivery took around four days, excellent quality part.

Good luck. Mat

changed my dogbone on weekend no jack it don't support the weight it supports engine movement

Just undo the bolts it will be ok. When you refit. You may have to move the engine forward/backwards. Easily done with one hand. Using free hand to put bolts in ;)
