Coilovers. Recommendations, opinions?

Featured Replies

Hi all looking at either AP coilovers or Weitecs for my 08 VRS anyone any experiences with these. Also if anyone knows of similar value ones that may be better please.

Also I need to adjust my camber at the rear to fit my wheels how do I go about doing this is there kits etc available.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Gareth

Both the AP and Weitec coilovers are made by KW in Germany, the Weitec are basically the next step up from the AP in terms of build quality and materials used.

Both are good kits though and ideal for everyday road use.

As Damian says they are part of the same group, so i'd expect spring and damper rates to be very similar if not identical.  The Weitecs are a little more expensive to reflect a more corrosion resistant finish (galvanised IIRC?).

Very good kit for the money - I did over 70k miles on my weitecs on the previous car no problems.  It's not what you want for track days but for road use it's pretty good.  Ride is better on my H&R's but they were more money.

No idea on camber adjustment on the rear, but mine ended up at -2 just due to the drop,   HTH.

Thanks for the help. I knew that they were made by the same crowd was just wondering was there much difference between the pair for the money. Rob thanks for your input you seemed fairly happy with the weitecs. I have a mate running AP's in his B5 and he reckons there good. I was just thinking when I have the few extra pound would it be worth my while choosing the Weitecs over the aps.

What adjustments are in APs and Weitecs is it just height? What are they like for lows. Track day use won't affect me I'm more stance kind of person.

Damian do you know how I would go about adjusting the rear camber is there kits etc available.

I have the AP kit, it's spot on!

I did a review the other day if you search. Regarding camber, the rear is fully adjustable via eccentric bolts..... But if their seized in the bushes you may need new bushes or arms. I replaced all my rear arms and bolts as it was quicker and quite cheap to do so.

The fronts only have small amounts of adjustable camber via the strut tops but you can equal them up by moving the subframe (most alignment places aren't keen on this).

Just height for both.

In terms of height, on my last car i ran them about 35 to 40 mm below the stock vRS height, looked like like this:

lousy pics but you get the idea, this was where the fronts were to get that height - about 15mm or so left to go:

TBH although you could have them lower than i did, the ride suffers and you invalidate your warranty if you go lower then the kw recommendations.

Nice one cheers I'll have a search for that now. I should be alright with adjusting camber I know the car got new arms fitted when I got it first and most bushes were replaced. That's handy though thought I might had to buy camber shims etc.

Cheers for the help

Thanks Rob love the white wagon, i'd be looking to go lower than that I think going for looks/stance as opposed to daily driveability car is only for the weekends. If you check out my project thread for the car you'll see pictures of my old Bora. The lad that bought it off me bagged it and only got it about 1/2" lower in the front and no lower in the back. Thats how low I ran it B) Car isn't really driveable but have to slow myself down someway.
