HELP a member in need

Featured Replies

hi all was driving my car earlier and noticed the lights on dash dimming engine started to feel rough the boom no power all lights lit up on dash like a christmas tree ive opened bonnet the fuse box on top of battery has decided to melt a fuse ive fiddled with it and managed to get car going but i need a fusebox anyone got one

Your best bet would be the local scrappy but I would investigate how/why that has happened. Is it just the usual that's connected to it or is there extras?

Do a search, it is not that unusual, normally caused by a poor connection to one of the fuses.

just the usual mate but my sound system shook the car and its a known fault

Hmm, possible doggy earth point some where. Check the earth points are free from rust and some dielectric grease or Vaseline always keeps them in good condition.

Ive got a spare one I'd be happy to sell if u get stuck m8. Bought it a little while ago but wasnt needed in the end. Was gonna hang on to it just in case but im happy to sell on if someone is desperate. It has the alternator wire with it too.

Usually the cable from the alternator is the culprit, i renewed mine after having the fusebox melt on me as it was the part where the cable joined that melted

The fuse box is not normally the culprit but the weak point that suffers. Defo check alternator wires to the 110amp fuse. The start of the problem shows it self as hot connections on the nuts in the fuse box indicating a build up of current resistance. If it gets left the resistance gets worse and so does the heat till it melts the plastic fuse box and causes shorting. Once you have had this you may find it will come back as the metal nuts will have been blackened and may not allow good current between wiring and fuse box. So I would defo keep a eye on it. I did a diy guide in techi section on simple fix for my issue which was alternator wire

You shouldn't need to change the alternator just the connecting wire.

All that needs changing is the fuse box and the alternator cable, the battery and the alternator itself will be fine

Breakers yard, or search the for sale section on here for anyone breaking one.

Failing that, get one made up.
