Tyres again, but with a difference

Featured Replies

Is it just my bad luck or are others in the same boat?

Over the last two weeks I have had 3, yes 3, punctures one after the other and each in a different tyre.

All have been caused by screws.

Fortunately they have all been repairable and only £15 a time otherwise it could have been a very expensive couple of weeks.

So is it caused by the recent very wet weather washing crud out of the gutters and the wet tyres being more susceptible to picking up debris or some other unexplained phenominon?

Thats very unlucky indeed :(

Hard to say why without knowing roads you use, you sure your alloys aren't magnetic lol

Trying to stay away from the gutter edge is about all you can do.

Its only £5 here for tyre repairs, but its a good job yours were repairable, or you'd have been seriously out of pocket.

Bad luck comes in 3's, so you should be alright from now on anyway :)

Hi CFB,

Probably just bad luck. It could be that some one on your route is having some work done on their house and the builders are careless about disposing of rubbish. Had the same type of problem recently when a neighbour was having his kitchen renewed. The builders were loading the old units on to their pick-up and screws, nails and bits of wood were left in the road.

There is one other possible explanation. If you run your tyres at high pressure the tyre can be more susceptible to picking up punctures. Another explanation may be that some moron is targetting your vehicles and leaving screws under the tyres.

Regards,

Mike

You're correct that wet weather makes it easier for objects to lodge in the tread and from there penetrate the carcase.

Having said that, if it's been a screw every time I'd suspect a degree of "enemy action".

We did think that it might be sabotage as one of our neighbours is a it of an a**e about parking.

One of those "that's my space" people, but I don't think they have the b***s.

Reckon we'll put it down to pure bad luck and hope the 3 is over now.

Organise a Meet at your house Clive, we'd love to meet him   :giggle:

havent had a puncture since 2007, and that was a pothole... maybe the roads you drive?

3 punctures?,theres the old saying,'Once is an accident, twice is coincidence, three times its on purpose.Check your tyres before you set off and see if there are any 'booby traps' left for you.

Had a puncture on mine in the 1st week of owning it. Was a piece of glass on outer edge which was luckily just about repairable.
