HID Kit Install (not again)

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Can someone advise me as to whether or not i have got this correct. My current bulb connects to a black connector block which has a silver bracket clipped to the front. This bracket has 2 "arms" which then click into place into the actual light unit (see photo)

On the HID kit there isn't this bracket which actually clips the bulb to the light unit. I can't see any other way of connecting the HID bulb to the unit. Am i doing something wrong or missing something really obvious?

Help !!!

You have to make the metal bracket fit the HID bulb, I had to do this on my last VRS.

aaarrrggghhh.

I am assuming the best way would be to cut it?

Dont suppose anyone knows the part number for the bracket?

I bent mine, no cutting and thread the HID bulb lead through the hole in the bracket.

I will have another look when it isn't so dark. The other thing though is the leads pass through a rubber grommet just along from the bulb but i guess i don't need the grommet?

Where have you put the ballast and the black power box thingy?

I cut the grommet off as it won't fir through the bracket. I found a hole in the headlight moulding and attached the ballast to it so the whole lot went back in a one piece.

It's not on my Blackline so can't post any pictures.

Might be worth getting it coded rather than use capacitive loads to stop the errors.

search on here there are loads of posts about retrofit HIDs

Looking at the headlight unit i reckon the lot will fit inside, ballast and all.

I have VCDS so it will defo be coded to work.

yes, i have read all the HID posts...good god it took me ages !!!  :giggle:

Thanks for the help.

i posted a pic of this in the last page of the hid definitive guide.

I don't have the clip on box as my Octy is a facelift. There is only a round rubber cap that covers the back of the light unit.

I am sure i can fit everything inside the unit with a bit of velcro etc.

Does anyone know if the mini ballast gets hot as i would rather not knacker the whole light unit?
