Photoshop request please?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My wife has started a furniture restoration business with her mate and has got a few orders and some work already. I just bought the domain restorationladies.co.uk (not an advert, there is nothing up there!) and I am trying to cobble together a basic website. All I have is Microsoft publisher and I am trying to make a logo. I have made some silhouettes that had guns and replaced them with tools and made a logo in JPG. trouble is, it looks good to me when its small, but if it is any bigger it goes all pixelated and looks rubbish.

Can this be fixed or tidied up to website quality easily? If it is any sort of work or hassle, can anyone tell me a program that I might have or download for free that I could use to do it myself please.....

Any free programs out there I can use?? On a budget to get my first website running. Also any good website building software?

That's the problem with bitmap images - enlarge them and you get the jaggies. So you either need to paint the picture at the correct size (or find one) or use a vector graphic program. Trouble with those vector programs is that they can be tricky to use and also there are not many free ones.

If you want a free paint program for bitmaps, this might do the job: http://www.getpaint.net/ . The GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is another but that has it's own way of working.

Where are you going to host your website? Do they have tools to build the web pages? I see that 1-2-3 have a website builder but it costs. A quick Google found http://www.wix.com/ . No idea if it's any good but claims to be free so might be worth signing up to see. Bail out if money is required! Supposed to be "drag'n'drop" so could be quick to get going.

The other possibility is to use something like WordPress as the basis of your website - it's not just for blogs. But that depends on where you host your website. Once set up (and that is not too bad if available as an addin from your web host), it can be easy to change the content. My wife used to dread updating her website but once we moved it to WordPress, it was easy (and took me out of the loop  :giggle: ).
