CD stuck - error message

Featured Replies

Hi

I put in an old home burnt CD in the player and now all I get is error warning and a refusal to eject. I can hear the motor trying but nothing happens. I tried guiding it out with a card (cos that worked on my slot loading mac) but still no avail.

Any ideas? I started removing it but realised there may not be much point if it's jammed.

If it is just buggered is there an easy replacement model any one can suggest?

 .

Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to Briskoda :)

Which CD drive is the disc stuck in? Boot or dash?

When things like this have happened to me in the past, I've tried reloading the disc by very gently pushing another disc part-way in. This should get the original disc back into the drive. Then, on eject, give the unit a bit of a thump.

The actual problem is that CDR and CDRW are a bit thicker than normal CDs. My Ford 6-disc in-dash thingy would jam if I had burnt discs in sequentially. (But not if I had them in 1,3 and 5.)

If it's the boot unit, then another boot unit should do the job, just plug n play.

If it's the dash unit, then there is a whole bunch of options you can have:

1) Stream / Stream MP3 - direct fit, direct replacement for the Audience unit. (All I can see is that the name has changed.)

2) VW RCD 310 - direct fit, needs new fascia (no known Skoda equal) Nice unit, buttons glow red instead of green, big clear display white on black writing. Will control MDI kit. Will not show climate / parking sensor information. (Parking sensor still bleeps though)

The next ones  will need new fascia, and will probably require an upgrade to the CANBus to prevent battery drainage.

3) Bolero - direct fit, has 6-disc changer built-in. Should control boot unit. Will read MP3 from all 6 discs. <Makes the boot changer fairly redundant really> ) No climate/parking info. This doesn't need a new fascia

4) VW RNS 310/315 (Skoda Amundsen / Amundsen+), single disc, SDCard (MP3) with navigation (needs £10 GPS received). Optional DAB (needs £20 DAB aerial) and/or Bluetooth (needs mic, around £40). No climate/parking info.

5) VW RNS 520 (Columbus), navigation, MP3 on hard-drive. No climate/parking info.

There are many other non-OEM options too, with varying combinations of features.

You can also get a conversion kit and put a single DIN unit in there.

Really depends on what you want and what you're prepared to pay.
