Whats the best d/v for the mk1 vrs?

Featured Replies

Im looking into a few subtle mods at present for the vrs but am unsure on the dump/diverter valve for these as I see most fit a re-circ valve against the original type of atmospheric dump valve.

I would like to get a bit of the tsshh noise that you would associate with the atmospheric dump valve but if its going to cause issues are there any other things that can be changed to increase the noise a little but obviously increasing the reliability and performance with it?

Im still trying to get to grips with all the N75 and 249 valves and so on and if honest have no idea what does what on these engines. All I know is I want to start making it sound and go better and am not sure what is the best way to get the best out of it?

Any help or advice will be most appreciated :)

Decent, shielded open cone filter and a forge 008 recirc valve will give a nice sound.

The original is a recirc, people fit atmospheric but they cause issues.

Thank you for the response. I do have an itg foam filter that I used to run on my V6 zs which I believe has a 76mm neck diameter, is this a suitable filter to use or do these engines prefer an actual paper come filter?

Forge 008 that's ok as was looking at these but was also looking at the forge splitter valve where it recircs under low throttle and dumps under full throttle or is that a no go then as may upset the ecu? This is the first turbo'd car I've owned that doesn't like the atmospheric dump valves as all previous ones have been the rover turbos which didn't care :)

The splitter valve can be fussy to get right. Believe it's 16 clicks from base setting. Instead of a heat absorbing power robbing filter on the end of the MAF get yourself a eBay cold air induction kit (£50 ish) and put your ITG on the end of that. Match that with the 008 and it's plenty loud enough as mine is with standard dump valve on and eBay kit. I too came from MG ZS ownership. But just the 1.8 16v.

Ah that's fair enough then. Well my mate with his cupra r said about the 008 this evening too as he's got one on that along with his silicone 3" tip and filter but his list goes on further still to amd remap and full exhaust.

When you say about the induction are you talking about one of those pipes? I have still got this setup as took it off the zs which can be made into different layouts but just wondering if worth trying or to just get one of the pipes I think your talking about.

Sounded epic on the V6.

A fellow zedder, how are you finding it after the transition?

That pipe should be ideal tbh. The eBay ones are already shaped to go round the battery and then down to behind the bumper. I miss the more precise handling of the ZS but rate the octy far superior in every other department. But mine didn't sound as good as the V6 ZS's being the 1.8.

Well I've been looking online and couldn't see any pipe work that was already shaped to fit anywhere near that cost. They are all up and around the £200 mark and don't really want to spend that on a pipe at present.

Was at the nec yesterday so research came to a halt but still can't find any of these £50 odd jobbies.

Yeah the ZS is and always will handle great, especially when you put more money into the suspension too, that car was awesome on track, loved the precise handling but got to the point of needing a change but needed something to comfortably got all the family's gear in too.

The V6 sounded amazing, I will miss that noise but a boosting turbo with a good exhaust also sounds very tasty too. The Octy should be on the road as of this afternoon so can actually start seeig what the fuss is about for real :D :D

If I can't find a pipe I may just readjust my kit and get a slight reducer to connect it upto the maf better.

Do they usually route round between the battery and suspension turret where the oe box sits and thought the gap in the inner wing then?

On another note regarding the induction setup, what do people do about the redundant secondary air pipe that also connects to the oe airbox? When looking I didn't realise that was there but what do you do with that if you go to an inner wing kit as I'm not looking to remove all that at present? Is there an easy to do option?

Ah, I was looking specifically under octavia induction kits and so on :(

Used to having to be very precise on models with previously buying the mg things as nothing else much went on it. Didn't think of looking under golf, bora or leon applications.

Cheers for the link :)

All of the mk4 platform cars except the 4x4 parts are interchangeable pretty much.

See I didn't realise that. I've found a tip for a golf, leon, octavia setup that's only £50 as end of line part but when you go onto the Liston it states its for 150 and not 180hp models so doesn't seem to fit the vrs.?

Doesn't help as not totally sure on what engine code I've got so again looking for bits is proving awkward lol :)

My bad! Slight differences with the odd part. You'll have an AUQ engine code which is the 180bhp version. You can get 150bhp 1.8t engines which a few parts are different like the TIP. Search eBay for an sfs over sized TIP for the 1.8t AUQ. Bout £140 notes but is best for em. It's on my wish list lol.

I really appreciate the help, I new what was what with the zed but with this I just feel I'm stumbling around without a clue and even when I do manage to research my answers it still doesn't seem to help lol.

I will start my Xmas list for the mrs soon I think lol, lets see what I can get sorted and get these bits rolling in for it :)

Standard DV is best with a decent CIA will get you the noise and no loss of performance !!

Only go for the supersize tip for these all the other cheaper ones are not an upgrade and some flow worse that stock

Do your research and you won't buy the stuff not needed

I see what you mean about the air filter, I just tried my foam itg as a "see how it goes and sounds" trial and christ. The noise difference was amazing and you could really hear the turbo spooling up but as it wasn't inclosed as was a trial I see what you meant about loss of performance, it just didn't feel quite the same and not in a good way so if I can re route it to behind the front n/s grill I will try that one weekend with the pipe work I have in the garage.

Regarding the tip I wasn't really after a cheap one it was only where I'd seen one on offer but it doesn't appear like it will fit the 180hp option so I will wait until I can afford the proper oversized sfs or samco one I think.

Thanks for the advice :)
